Trivia
- Disc Four
- The
original 1989 release includes a CDV 5" disc with three live versions
from 1972 along with a video of Ashes To
Ashes. A CDV is a 5" laserdisc playable in so-called "combi
players" (laserdisc/CD players) (Ed: and also some computers such as
the Amiga 500?). It is not playable in
standard CD-ROMs or DVD drives available today.
- A subsequent rerelease in the mid 90s changed the CDV to a
standard CDROM, playable in most computers today.
- Yet another rerelease in the late 90s removed the fourth bonus
disc completely and just bundled the three CDs in a simple
cardboard box.
- A "retrospective look" at Bowie's career,
produced in a boxed set (by Rykodisc in the US). The
design/packaging and production won many plaudits from critics
(including a Grammy in 1989), and is recognised as one of the
premier collections of Bowie songs (in particular because it
steers away from being just a "greatest hits"
collection).
- An extremely rare version of the boxed set came in a wooden
box (only 350 sets were made). Each came with a letter signed and
numbered by Bowie and were sold mail order by Ryko for about $300
each. They are now (1997) valued at about $700-$1000. (Info from
Justin Price).
