I got the bootleg CDs of this cybercast today :))) Playing "My Death" in a loop... I didn't see this show, but I was at both Philly shows and the Washington D.C. show. I waited two years for a proper souvenir from this tour and I finaly have it :))) (Well I've had the shirts and the photos but it's not the same...)

Had second row for this show - oh my GOD!!! Absolutely fantastic!! I managed to click off a couple of pictures before a guard threatened to have me ejected if I raised my camera one more time!! Of course, I couldn't risk that so I put my camera away. Even though I was further back the first Boston show, both were wonderful!! I've seen Bowie many times but the Earthling shows I feel are his best. As usual, it was great seeing the same fans at the "front of the line" - hope to again someday!!!

Talk about a fantastic show! Came all the way from TX for both shows
and I have to say, Oct. 1st I was blown away! David sang "My Death"
which is one of my absolute favorites, and "Jean Genie" was right on
the money. The blues segway into it was great and, 8 rows away, I
had chills up and down my spine the whole night. I can't wait for the
next tour, David. And I'll be there. I promise. Long live Bowie!

Dudes !!!!
I would like to thank Bowie for playing in Boston so soon after the great Avalon gig.
Dave, go back into the studio and release another great record like Earthlings !!
Why did'nt "Dead Man Walking" become a huge single?
I taped both nights and they come out wonderful !! 10.1.97 being a little better
What do you have ?
Take care,

I was fortunate enough to see both Boston shows. After Wed's show, I remarked that it was the best, or one of the best shows of the tour. My death, queen bitch, moonage daydream...the intensity of the music, the playful David.....I have seen him perform since 84, and believe that DAvid is in his prime.....this is the best he has ever been....a bold statement, but one from my heart.....i adore everything he does, but he is so strong.....still attracting new fans, and keeping the "old".....he is talented, smart and oh so sexy ;-))
One day i will tell him personally!

Having recently attended 10+ shows in the up front standing section,
it was mighty difficult to sit and watch the show from my 1st row,
mezzanine seat. I still had my ticket stub from the Sept. 30 show so
I politely used it to get to the front center orchestra. It worked
until the real ticket holders arrived, and then I had to resign myself
to the fact that the masquerade was over. So it was back to my seat
in the mezzanine where I just couldn't keep still...hopefully the
person behind me is forgiving.

I had the honor of attending both shows, (1st night balcony, 2nd night
in the FRONT ROW!:-) I am still in a state of joy! My friends and I
touched him and looked into his eyes...f**king unbelieveable. I am 40
and have seen Bowie many times but have never seen anything like these
two Orpheum shows! (Not even Avalon last year comes close!) The Boston
Globe s*cks! Either attend the shows and review them or don't!! But to
re-print the 1st nights review for the 2nd show is insane! after
reading the review for the first night I was pissed anyway as I felt
the reviewer didn't even get it - so why was he there? I was thrilled
to hear Quicksand, Stay, Moonage Daydream, Always crashing in the same
car along with newer favorites Hallo Spaceboy, I'm afraid of Americans,
Seven years in Tibet,Outside, Voyeur of Utter Destruction etc...
Will the cybercast ever be repeated? I'd love to see it!
I just came back to work today and still have no voice
from singing and screaming! It's been a great Bowie vacation...i want
to go again tonight!!!David thank you so much for the music and joy
you share!please come back soon!

Went to this show. I've read the comments and have to add my endorsement of the prior reviews. Highlight was definitely "Always Crashing" with some excellent bass lines that added to the original! Queen Bitch is a favorite -- first time I've been privy to that one. Howabout Scary Monsters too? Fun to hear how the song has evolved. First with Nine Inch Nails, then Bowie solo gigs for Outside, and now in its current form -- lots of thumping keyboards minus the second guitar...turns out to be a great version! Two of the best Bowie shows I've seen. Good note -- the guy next to me mentioned "I hope he plays Space Oddity" before the show. I chuckled then, but after the show, I was thinking "Boy, this guy was at the WRONG show." Especially after that encore, which could only be totally appreciated by those who accept techno hands down! And honest I didn't even recognize Is It Any Wonder -- heard no "Fame" in it AT ALL. Was that it? Thought it could've been some mutant form of Pallas Athena. Thanks for reading.

Glad to hear that Tamara got her camera in! ( : I was wishing the
whole time that I had snuck one down my pantyhose...
I didn't pick up the Boston Globe, but if it's true that they
reprinted the review from the first night for the second night,
then their entertainment people are NOT on the ball! Those two shows
were both great, but hey were entirely different in mood and texture,
not to mention setlist. And the second show would have really blown
them away!
David was a lot more relaxed during the first show, and really
personalized the event. He had more frequent dialog with the
audience, and acted like a happy little kid running around the
stage. During the second show, he was much more "Mr. Showman",
which was also nice, but in a different way. He really laid it
on heavy for "My Death" -- his stormy vocals against the background
of that cool, tinkly Garson piano... (Steam was rising off our
bodies during that one, ha ha!)
The band seemed to maintain most of the energy throughout the second
show, while during the first show, the energy level dropped awhile
during the encore. (During the first show, up until the encore,
David's voice was incredible! It even topped the 2nd night's vocals!
But he wore it down a bit by the encore.)
The setlist also made a huge difference in the atmosphere of the two
shows. The second night was was more "experimental", as far as
the instrumental selections. "V-2 Schneider" and "Is It Any
Wonder", for example blended well with Laurie Anderson's "O Superman",
and the background visuals and props. The entire environment became abstract.
(Although they had done "O Superman" the night before, it was about
as "experimental" as they had gotten -- except, of course, for the
Earthling selections that many people were unfamiliar with.)
The first show had a little bit more relief for people who were
unfamiliar with his more recent work. They got to hear "Fame" and
"Stay", for example. (Although"Queen Bitch" was included the second
night, and not the first.) And if the the acoustic rendition of
"Quicksand" didn't blow away those first-nighters, they must have
been floored by "The Supermen"! I was, even though I had just heard
David perform it with Reeves on WBCN. It was absolutely fantastic.
I could go on and on, but I won't -- I'll just say that after seeing
those excellent performances, I don't feel as bad about missing the
Philly shows this year.
But my spirit will be with David in Philly, as this is the first time
since 1973 that I have not seen him there. (Ah, well-- it's a
different era -- someday, when I'm too old to go to shows at all,
we'll be able to see all of them on the net, anyway! ( : )
But there's nothing like seeing David LIVE! (Including at the Tower,
which is another story -- Patti Bowie remembers, and so do I! ( : )

Hi again - my review of these two fantastic shows in on the first show's page - but had to let you all know that since we were so close the second night (3rd row center!!!), I was able to get about 10 photos with a throw-away I had stashed in my bra! We watched someone else get their camera taken away and gleefully left the venue knowing we had about 8-10 good shots of DB up close - as soon as I get these developed I'll be sure to get them to Evan for your viewing pleasure! Thanks to Mike (and of course Melanie) for having the good sense to grab the camera from my seat as we left the show - I was in a state of shock after seeing Mr. Bowie in such rare form! And of course, thanks to my Bowie pal Jane for just being Jane - had a great time, made the trip back from Phoenix worth it a hundred times over!!

Hey everyone... This show was amazing! Does anyone know where i can get me a bootleg of either night? Right now there's nothing that could please me more. Everything that needs to be said has been said, so I'll leave with that. By the way, is anybody else a wee bit ticked at the Boston Globe for reprinting the review of Tuesday's show for today's paper? That does this performance no justice- they were certainely not the same!

Loved what I could hear on the cybercast. Waiting for the Man, My Death, and Outside in a row gave me shivers. I can't wait for Philly tomorrow night. Haven't missed a Bowie tour since 1974 and this sounds like one of the best. May even surpass "Station to Station."

Can't stop thinking about this show! In addition to my previous comments, I really enjoyed the attention given to Mike Garson during several songs - why not put the spotlight on Zachary once in a while too? It is a joy to watch him in action - terrific non-stop energy! Everything from EARTHLING sounds great in concert. In particular, IAOF was so powerful I couldn't stop dancing all day today with the beat still pounding in my head. WOW!

I was at the first show (made comments herein TW). Watched the cybercast last night. Like others, yeah it was choppy, but hey.....a free DB concert?.....I'll take it any time. It looked to me like the only real difference between the two Boston shows was his approach. Tuesday seemed a little more relaxed, intimate, loose.....Wednesday seemed to be geared much more toward the Euro-Rave genre. My wife (bless her) says she "still loves the old David more than the new"....real glad I took her to the first show. She would have been totally lost at the second show and we would have argued all the way home. Lastly, it's been pretty cool sharing these two shows with all of you TWers. Living up in New Hampshire (or more acurately, "Cow"-Hampshire, I was beginning to think I was the last DB fan around. I'm real glad to have found TW, Evan and the rest of you to help me stay (A Lad In) Sane. Best Regards to you all. Enjoy the rest of the tour!!!!!!

WOW! Great show!
Me, Evan, and some others watched the live cybercast.
I loved Queen Bitch! We can thank Mike for some funky piano!
Due to the net congestion, I missed a few of the songs:(
But I liked what I saw!
I hope he does some more cybercasts in the near future.

Wow! What a concert! I had a fantastic time. Eight rows back and slightly to the right of center, I was ecstatic, all night long!!! (I feel sorry for the blonde standing next to me, though. I think I was a little rough on her: I couldn't stop dancing in the aisles!!!) With that pounding, double time beat taking over our heads, who could? When the concert first started, there were rows of complete dead-heads in front of me. Nobody moved (maybe swayed slightly...). But by the time Outside was over - everyone was moving. I thought I was going to explode when Panic in Detroit came on. And that driving bass line in Afraid of Americans sent me over the edge: I haven't danced that hard in years! David - you've done it again. Listening to Earthling is great, but that music is made to be performed live. Yes, more than once the dials hit 11 and the buzz was over the top! But that was intentional - a great cacophony of sound that overloaded your senses and forced you to follow it over the top and out the roof of the auditorium. WHAT A SHOW!!!

I was at the concert last night, and what a show!! DAvid Bowie rocked!!
I have to admit, I was watching Reeves and his mutant Parker guitar the
entire show, though. Anyway, I know that this is a bit of a bad thing
to ask for, but does anybody have a bootleg of the show? I would be
really interested, and definately willing to trade or buy. A bootleg
of the live broadcast would be nice. Please E-mail me if you have any
info.

Musical highlights were "MY DEATH" which was mind-blowing, Jean Genie (I love it when David turns up the heat and the volume on this one), Strangers When We Meet, V2 Schneider (the shadowy profile of David honking away on the sax is unforgettable), and MOONAGE DAYDREAM. Overall, the band seemed a little nervous, perhaps from the internet simulcast. I have seen stronger performances and a lot more lively animation from David and Reeves. Special thanks to the guys in the front row who let me hop over from my seat in the second row, and to my husband who was left to fend for himself (but was joined by the good company of Susan, Patti and Paul at various times during the show). I love David's pajama outfit - the fabric flows well as he dances about the stage and then clings to his body as the humidity rises - especially love it when his shirt is open ;-) VERY SEXY! I saw the glitter too (nice touch))!

Cambridge, MA Planet Earth - Thursday, October 02, 1997 at 06:39:37 (EDT)
I have been a Bowie fan for many years and was wondering what I was going to see at the Orpheum. After seeing him (for the first time) tonight, I can only say WOW!!!
Mixing old and new, with richness and depth, it is clear that he was at the top of his form, whether playing old classics made new (audience participation in 'Scary Monsters' and or an emotional 'Under Pressure' or the totally unexpected and terrific 'My Death') or doing his new work from 'Earthling' and 'Outside' (plus a couple of Lou Reed tunes
thrown in for good measure). It all meshed well, hinging on his magnetic stage presence and to the musical talent of Reeves Gabrels, Gail Dorsey, Zachary Alford and Mike Garson. Some of it was over the top (i.e. knobs set at 11), but there is enough other
elements that work.
If you are a fan and get a chance to see him on this tour, GO!!!! If
you can't get close to get a clear view of David, by all means take binoculars. Seeing how much David was enjoying himself and his enthusiasm was as much a kick as the rest of the show. Don't confuse David Bowie with any other music acts from the 70's that seem to be wheezing around the country. This guy and his band are damn near stunning. Not only did he write, but he lives the lyrics of 'Cracked Actor' "forget that I'm 50...". You NEVER would have guessed that he was tonight!!!

Finally I have my very own bootleg copy of Gail's version of O Superman, thanks to tonight's brilliant on-line performance. My friend and I were fortunate enough to see David both nights at the Universal in LA (The first night in the pit!), and ever since then we have been trying to get a recording of that song (as well as a live recording of the whole concert). Thanks David! I love you!!!!

I do believe that version of My Death is one of the finest Bowie performances I've ever heard. Absolutely incredible. Is It Any Wonder, O Superman, Hallo Spaceboy were highlights. All the glowing reviews of this tour have been understatements, to say the least. I can't wait till the 12th!
