Okay, take it easy on me... I'm new at this.
If you guys have any tips on the guitar parts I'd appreciate it because I'm teaching myself and no one's heard me play yet, and this is super embarrassing for me but I could use the feedback.
rrrrriiiiiiight...
PS. The sound quality is terrible as I recorded this on my mp3 player, and when I converted it from a wav file it went all crackly... so now it sounds like I recorded it on an Edison cylinder.

Hey, I like it. The Edison effect makes it sound all warm & cuddly, like a Donna Heyward sweater.
Nice singing voice somewhere under those crackles, too.

For $20 you could get one of those:

and ultimateguitar.com usually have decent tabs.
You have a lovely voice, though, and decent skills in guitar strumming can be gained in only a few months, so I expect you to achieve interesting recordings very soon :-)
Would you sing The girl who swallowed the world if I wrote it for you?

Thank you Mathieu and Lucas, my apostles of song. I really appreciate the feedback!
And yes, I would totally sing that Froggy, but I probably couldn't play it. Find me a dodgy karaoke track to sing over and we may have something.

I think I saved some Bowie karaoke tracks somewhere. I will look for them.

Vanessa, you're so sweet you make me look like Walter Mathau circa Grumpy Old Men.
Thanks you guys!
Strawie, do you have anything constructive to add? What can I do to improve?

Alright, so crappy quality but I'd totally make babies with your voice. Like, in a second.
If you ever decide to be a thoroughly fucked up borderline-anorexic Asian or South American chick with serious daddy issues I think we could really have a future together. A totally healthy one.

I think I could shoot for the South American basket case if you could fashion yourself into a wispy, ambiguously straight Irish poet with one black eye and a dead stare.
Anyway, thank you Monkeyboy. That was actually very nice, especially because I’m super self-conscious about the ol’ chops.
P.S. I hope by “make babies with your voice” you didn’t mean you want to spill your Monkeyseed over my vocal chords.

Cut your finger nails as short as possible, form hard skin on your finger tips and simply keep practicing.
And try putting a capo on the 3rd fret with certain numbers - it's good exercise for the voice.

Gram Parsons fan that I am, I've listened to Love Hurts probably a thousand times (not sure I've ever heard the Roy Orbison version, and I have conveniently forgotten Nazareth's), but your take on it -- especially the unusual phrasing and flexibility with the melody -- really gave it a whole new dimension, which to me, is what makes covers worthwhile. (and I liked the primitive guitaring!)
So, congratulations, JG. Yours is a rendition that Beau Bryant (the song's author) would really love.

Gee, thanks p2c! The different phrasing was born more out of necessity rather than ingenuity because of my poor playing skills, but I'm glad I didn't murdalize it too much.
I've just listened to the Gram Parsons version and I love it. I wanted to hear more after hearing "A Song for You" in the Grand Theft Parsons soundtrack, but I was just starting to get into Townes Van Zandt at the time and got a little obsessed.. Now I'm fixin' for some more of that emo country and haunting folk, so any suggestion on where to start with Parsons?
