Ron Mueck - Hyper Realist Sculptor
[re: ]

Ron Mueck was originally a puppeteer and model maker for the Jim Henson / David Bowie film Labyrinth (he also did the voice of Ludo).
Born in Melbourne, Ron specialises in hyper realist art - some of the most amazing ever produced. He is now London based but has exhibitions all over the world.
He has no formal art school training. His art is not only challenging for it's realism but also it's unusual scale which you will see as follows.

Damn. Let's see if these work (the first incidentally is a sculpture of mueck's own head)....

phenomenal! i especially like the changes in scale.
reminds me of duane hansen (maybe someone has posted this here elsewhere), but his are all life-size. i've never seen one, but i've heard they're so real-looking, people start to talk to them about the other sculptures in the room...

actually, now that i've thought about it a second, mueck might have the upper hand because of the scale shift...means he couldn't have cast them, as i suspect hansen might have done.
i was at the art institute of chicago with dice about a month ago, and we saw some pretty incredible stuff there, too. none exactly like this, but bronzes with astonishingly perfect proportions and oils that looked as if you step right into them. i often hear, "why don't people today all paint/sculpt/etc. with this sort of exact fervent detail?" but, obviously they do.

i saw a lot of these at the modern art museum in fort worth, tx. they are even more amazing when you stand up next to them, sometimes you think you catch them breathing, you expect them to get up and walk around.
the happier i am when i'm with you the harder it gets when i am alone...

In a similar vein is Kittiwat Unarrom, except he makes his stuff out of fuckin' bread.
