Re: Yeah but Argentina versus who? [re: Strawman]

There are some causes for conserns with englands game, with the biggest consern is erikson and his half-mind tactical output and, like you said, his love towards the italian style-of-play. But with the team, the passing and finishing has to improve, and i feel like they should move to a more direct game, less short passes(especially if they can´t make it work!), and they should try to play with a higher intensity and tempo. The sweden game should show us where we are really going at, and there´s not a doubt it my mind that our level of perfomance will be risedto a new level. If not, then we are pretty much in deeb lumber...

That Eriksson subject line was great [re: EuropeanCanon]

In reply to:

Surely not the 60-70,000 Englishmen in Nuremberg whose behaviour there, and during the tournament as a whole, has been decribed as "exemplary?" Or maybe you were on about your fellow countrymen who made up the vast majority of the 400-odd arrests after the Poland match?

Exactly the two groups I was referring to. Even if they stay friendly you will always feel the air of violence when many of those folks are around. With the Swedish you would never have anything like that and with the Swedish the media would never make a fuss about the fact that they stayed positive and friendly. They naturally are. And they look good. The Germans and the English rarely do.

Just to give you an image of what I mean:

The average Swedish fan group, assembling on Wittenbergplatz in Berlin before the match.
And no, the guy in the background isn't me.

Marco van Bastard [re: EJ]

It maybe the Kirin special brew talking but does anyone else agree the Dutch coatch looks a lot like the bad guy from D2: The Mighty Ducks? In particular when he acknowledged van Nistelroy's goal.

Anyone going to put money against France equaling Bolivia's record of 5 finals matches without scoring?

A plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel...

Re: That Eriksson subject line was great [re: EJ]

Indeed... whole Schöneberg was crowded by swedish fans and still there was not this typical soccer atmosphere of drunk and loud idiots who seem to love nothing more than making the whole sane world hate them.
For some reason swedish fans can run around in their national colours without looking like assholes from the far right wing of their country. Something Germans can only dream about.
I hope they will stay till the finals.

EJ's Racial Theories [re: EJ]

In reply to:

And they look good

Hmmm, yes, I can see how they'd appeal to you. They look almost too Aryan to be true. No stray kike genes there.

Re: World Cup 2006 - Future Legend [re: NoGame]

Wow. Czech Rep. - Ghana. That was both humiliating and hilarious.

And Italy played only a draw, this group is getting very interesting.

Hellooo.... new [re: Shelle]

I suppose I oughta point out that I'd do any of those Swedes...

...well, maybe not the Monkeyboy lookalike in the back, but y'know.

On a footballing note, has Group E taken over as the nominal 'Group of Death' now? And are Ghana the single most accomplished African team to come to a finals since the excellent Cameroonians sixteen years ago? On yesterday's showing, I'd certainly fancy them over a number of the European teams. I even suspect that were they put out against Italy again, they'd deliver something of the nature of their result against the Czechs.

Ghana v. Trinidad and Tobago final, anybody?

Game Oddity new [re: Arlequino]

What a crazy day in that group indeed. And after Ghana's surprising success over the Czechs it was all topped by the Italy-USA game last night. What an event. The outsider USA starting off strongly only to get caught by the Italians at their first chance. Than Italy scored an own goal for the equaliser plus de Rossi was sent off for his nasty ellbow check. Italy substituted Totti to get more organization in defense and suddenly found themselves on level numbers again when the US lost a player with a red card. With ten versus ten the second half starts but you could hardly say another beer, please before the next US player was sent off. A bit harsh tough, I thought. Italy suddenly a man up hadn't got a clue how to organise themselves and instead of the favourite now finishing off the US the Americans in the end came quite close to even winning this strange match. Hilarious. Great entertainment.

Italy only need a draw against the Czechs now which I think they will manage but the USA versus Ghana match could become a real cracker in the fight for the next round.
