football. REAL men play football.
That was one incredible mark.
Being a player of the same era, I am sure that Jezza and my uncle Roger have fought fiercely in the past.

Though I'd rather not turn this into a Premiership debate, I suspect that there are rather more reasons than Paul Robinson that led to Spurs having there first decent season in...well...forever.
Martin Jol, for a start. Then the Mido-Keane partnership. Aaron Lennon might be a good call. The emergence of Michael Dawson, that helped. Robinson's a decent 'keeper, undoubtedly. He just isn't world class.
He'll still be England's first choice, though, until either Scott Carson or Chris Kirkland start to play proper, regular football.
With regards to the Aussies - Gus Hiddink is an absolute genius. One of five or six coaches who has managed to show an equal brilliance at both club and international level. And if there's been a more committed bunch of players than the Socceroos at this World Cup, then I must've missed something pretty special - Ghana come a close second, of course. Even fat Viduka and lazy Kewell look ready to actually play their hearts out. Against a slightly out-of-sorts Italy, famed for not enjoying a big, physical contest, I could see Australia pulling off one of the big shocks of this World Cup.
Graham Poll though - what a joke!

Unfortunately, the way the draw is there can be no Aussie - England meeting unless both of 'em were to reach the 3rd place play-off or Final.
In either case England would run out clear winners.

Before the competition started, Sweden were ranked higher than Poland
Everyone who knows anything about football know those official rankings are a bit of a joke. That Swedish side got hockeyed in a friendly by an under strength Irish side recently so they can't be all that hot.
The African thing is a mystery. It may be that they've now progressed to the point where nearly all their top players play their club football in Europe is a disadvantage when it comes to playing internationally, in the same way that if all our players played in, say, different African leagues, it'd be difficult to pull them together into a coherent international team.

You've made your point now, you dont like walcott...
I've nothing against the lad. Wenger thinks he's going to be top class and Wenger is rarely wrong. Wenger also thinks he's not good enough to play in the Premship yet though.
What tickles me about the whole Whocott situation is how willingly the British public accepted the ludicrous idea of bringing a young guy who hadn't even played for his club yet and who looked pretty anonymous at Under 21 level like it was the Most Cunning Plan Ever.

I've seen no evidence from the English public that supported Erikkson's decision in Walcott's inclusion in the squad - quite the contrary - don't you read Arlequino's posts?
What did you expect the English public to do, protest outside Parliament?

Not a big watcher of "You're On Sky Sports" then?
Arlequino represents the sophisticated intellectual elite of English supporters: he's hardly typical. For example, when EJ said you can always feel the menace in the air when England are in town, I don't think he meant Arlequino.

Can't afford cable?
In reply to:
Daz, from page 19 - I'd rather have seen the Ivory Coast-Sebia match live. When will TV companies start to realise that games between two teams already eliminated are usually better spectacles than ones between two teams already through?
Surely you could have caught the Ivory Coast - Serbia encounter on cable?

Our cable companies don't carry the likes of ITV 354679435, Strawski. They have to make room for the local channels somewhere, and God forbid they'd sacrifice the Shopping Channel.
