The Official TW Time Clock new

As I sit here reading shyster's farewell thread and fighting back the tears - Ol' Yeller is on, what can I say? - I'm reminded of something I meant to post last week.

In TW, as I'm sure in every message board, people come and go all the time. Some people like to announce their retirement hours in advance, some people like to assure us that they're back after that frightening 4 day absence, and some just like to drop out of sight for months at a time.

I'd like to dedicate this thread to everyone who likes to keep the online community abreast of their comings and goings. Mom ground you from the 'net for 2 weeks for spilling chocolate milkshakes on the keyboard? Drop a note. Just back from safari? Great. Been insulted once too often by p2c after defaming 'Shake It' and want to storm off in an indignant huff? Here's your podium!

Now its up to you to judge when your absence merits reporting; personally, I plan to post 'I'm here' every time I log in to TW and 'See you later' every time I log out. But that's just good old unemployable drug dealer me.

Leaving for just under a day new [re: Marquis]

I like the idea of this thread. It is important to keep eachother informed. I will be leaving TW for a while. I have classes for most of the day and then I have to see a friend's play tonight. I probably won't be able to be back until tomorrow morning. If I am back early and am able to post tonight, I'll edit this message.

Unemployable, in every way new [re: Marquis]

I woke up at eleven a.m. (the other side of insomnia), and here I am.

It's taken about 15 minutes to see what there is to see here, so now I'm going to go to the gym. Knowing me, I'll probably check in briefly after I get back - just a five minute drop-in to see who loves me (PMs) and who hates me (search on p2c OR power2charm, all forums, last three days).

Then I'll be off to a quiet park bench to continue my reading of "Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow". That's right folks, I've joined Marquis in the ranks of the un-and-underemployed.

I've just returned from lunch. I went home and watched CNN broadcasting live footage of airplanes landing at the Santa Barbara airport.

"Is this Michael Jackson's plane, Connie?"

"No, Bill. These are businessmen with golf clubs"

"Is it possible Michael Jackson is hiding in a golf bag?"

"Well, Bill most golf bags don't have a compartment large enough for the King of Pop, but maybe someone in research can look that up"

"Connie, I'm being told that it is definately not possible for Jacko to hide in a golf bag"

Let me interrupt you there, Bill. There's another plane landing. Can you see that from where you are?

"Yes,Connie. The plane is coming into view now. I should point out here that the Golfers are now enjoying complimentary popcorn in the VIP Lounge. No confirmation as yet as to whether or not Michael Jackson is or is not hiding in the golf bag. Although it's a mighty fine golf bag."

"And the door of the plane is opening now and someone is getting off the plane. Is it Michael Jackson, Bill?"

"No it's not Michael Jackson, Connie. It appears to be Zsa Zsa Gabor. She's slapping the pilot across the face..."

"Bill, she appears to have a very large make-up bag with her. Is it possible that Jackson is hiding in Zsa Zsa's make-up bag?"

"Without a doubt, Connie"

I suppose it does depend on the sort of punk. I think the line should be drawn when it becomes a lifestyle, as opposed to a musical preference. The same is true of goths, too. Skinheads are slightly different, since their branch of politics is generally unacceptable in any form of expression.

Depends on your definition of 'skinhead'. I'm a skinhead. I don't hold any 'unacceptable' political views. I'm a socialist, big deal. In fact, most of the other skins I know have more or less the same political views. There are groups of extreme right wing and extreme left wing skins, but they're not as common. Now see, when I posted this:

In reply to:

personally, I plan to post 'I'm here' every time I log in to TW and 'See you later' every time I log out.

I figured everyone would take it as a joke. The intent of the thread, in my mind, was to combine all the useless farewell threads (like your own, shyster) in one, easy-to-ignore place *and* (as an added bonus) lump in the 'Hey, remember me and my 15 posts from two years ago? Well I'm back!' threads. Don't blame me if TW's collective ego is really as big as I made it out to be.

In reply to:

Yet another excuse for people to clock up unnecessary posts?

Well, as we've learned from you, a good TWer never needs an excuse to be unnecessary.

In reply to:

Is there no end to your cuntability?

If there is an end, rest assured that a) I'll tell you about it in this thread rather than wasting space with an ego-trip farewell thread of my own and that b) I'll have the decency to stay dead for at least two weeks before I come crawling back like you have.

And it's goodnight from him... new [re: Marquis]

Dear TW,

It is with some regret that I announce my indefinite departure from Teenage Wildlife. It's been a fun few years but the time has come for me to move along.

From the very beginning, I knew TW was the place to be: All cynicism and sarcasm. From debates about President Bush (point: I was right) through personal squabbles over nothing whatsoever, right through the Iraq war (point: I was right), TW has been a place where I can discuss things with people who have similar interests and humour, make jokes at the expense of idiots and generally have a good argument. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Between my research, tutoring, activism and substance abuse, I just don't have the time to read TW regularly. Rather than flit in and out of threads depending on when I have free time, I think it's best to just make a clean break.

I know it's been said before (and refuted by some) but this place isn't the same anymore. I'm not saying it's changed for the worse, but it's just not for me. As the old guard get more and more familiar with each other, the place loses it's bite to the point where the only people we really have a go at are the newbies. We've almost become a TW Bureaucracy, threatening to break the back of the board with unwritten rules and practices. Sure the old 'THBDB' trick is an old one and a good one, but when half the posts on TW seem to pertain to how others should modify their behaviour to suit the status quo, I think it's time to get the fuck outta Dodge.

Anyway, I wish you all the best with the site and "your own shit". Anyone who wants to keep in touch can just PM me, I'll pop back once in a while to check them. Who knows, maybe one day I'll return from exile, but untill then...

Goodbye you fucking pigs!

Jonny

Well fuck you too, I was never all that good when it came to keeping promises so i'll just crawl out in a rather pathetic manner like much wiser posters before me. Why?
I know this more or less breaks your hearts (yes, all three of you) but tonight after drinking 24 hours in a row I realized that talking about how fucking wasted one can be is just about the most boring thing there is. These things are better experienced firsthand or something, all the booze i've poured down my throat tonight has clouded my thoughts somewhat.

Let's face it, when Rabbit stops talking about alcohol abuse there isn't a hell of a lot to say. I think i'll make my way back if I find something interesting to talk about. Who knows, a heroin addiction might be just around the corner?

Anyway, I'll most likely still check my pm's if you absolutely must talk to me. If you're one of the wankers whose pm's i've ignored so far, prepare for a cold shoulder in the future too.

But, yeah, that's kind of creepy almost. That she said this on April 17, 2005. What else did she say about the future? What does April 17 hold for mankind? Are we still driving cars? What about TV? Does it still exist?

About Rabbitfighter leaving. It's sad, but I didn't really understand his reasoning. What was the reason he left again? He had had too much too drink, or he had had too little too drink? and...it was TW's fault?

Psychiatric Help 5¢ new [re: diamondogz74]

Well it's finally happened. I had my first TW dream last night. Rather than being a cool dream where everyone is in animal form but wearing human clothes and smoking hookahs, it was just me reading a thread on TW. It was the Time Clock thread and I started reading at the most recent post and scrolling back. Everyone was posting in response to something saying things like "finally!", "Thank god!", and "Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I'm free at last!" Curious to know what happened I quickly scrolled over dozens more of these posts to find what had incited it. Then I saw it, it shone like the Holy Grail. The 'ddz74' had posted that he was getting tired of TW, and thought he might stop coming all together. Fin.

Crazy dream, eh? I just wonder what it means. I'm so bad at interpreting dreams...

Well at least my posts at Hunky Dory won't be tampered with this week.

Los Angeles, though? Really? I hope, for your sake, that it's a brief and compulsory visit. Really, you ought to jump out over the East Coast, and you can come see how proudly we display Ta Det Lugnt - and how poorly we pronounce it.

OK, I'm back and nothing has happened on these boards.

Yes, Marquis, the visit was both brief and compulsory, rest assured. Now, although I am clearly more of and east coast person, there's nothing wrong with wanting to see the world's most fucked up city for once in your life, is there? (Though I mostly saw the Convention center and the few blocks around my hotel...) Your suggestion to take an evening off and cross the American continent in order to buy Swedish records sounded like a fabulous idea, but I didn't get around to doing that.

Edit: and I'm back to home-boiled Swedish coffee, thank God.

Re: Psychiatric Help 5¢ new [re: diamondogz74]

Okay, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm very close to leaving. Permanently.

First off, thanks to the whole Pink Floyd fiasco, I've been getting a slew of poorly written messages in my inbox telling me what a bad person I am. Thing is, I NEVER REGISTERED TO THE FUCKING FLOYD SITE. I WAS NOT AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT. So here I am, trying to be as polite as possible to these people (one suggested I should be put in a nazi death camp) but, y'know, they "won't even bother reading my replies". And the thing is, there's a part of me that thinks: "you know, if these people were a bit nicer and/or smarter, I'd actually agree with them". And it's true. I hate to say it, but I think we pushed it too far. It wasn't enough that we were covered in honey, we had to go a smash a bee's nest. With a baseball bat. The baseball bat...of broken promises.

Hey, it was already a crappy metaphor. Give me a break.

Still, there's other reasons, too. Simply put, I couldn't give a crap about half of the people here, and I'd say about 1/4 seem to exist soley for the purpose of ruining my day. I like Marquis, elevenlass, and JarethsGirl, Monkeyboy makes me laugh, and I'm sure there are others I like, but too often it's counter-balanced by people like Claude, blacktropic84 and those godforsaken anons, the endless stream of awful, AWFUL art, threads that go nowhere at the speed of light, etc., etc., etc.

So I'll see how it goes in the next week. If my irrational anger subsides, I'm in it for the long haul. If not, I'm out for good.

And I mean it this time.

No, really!

In reply to:

A little modesty is all you need and you'll be out of my bad books forever. It's that simple.

And perhaps to expand on my original statement: I don't think this site has gone downhill. I've just gotten too bitter to actually get much enjoyment out of it, and more often than not I just get angry with what I percieve as the jaw-dropping stupidity and arrogance of so many people here (no offense - I just don't like people in general). It seems every second post I do is putting someone down, and I feel like I'm contributing nothing of value to the boards anymore. Worse, taking out my frustration on people I don't know not only doesn't solve any problems, but inevitably makes me feel like more of a loser because, well, come on. Insulting people on message boards when you feel bad? Is there anything more pathetic bar seeing your own CD on sale at the dollar store?

But like I said, I'm giving it a week (until Friday, actually). I can't promise you anything, unfortunately.

I was complimentary to you the other day when you called Shelle's big wet bluff, but now I gotta say: That's the fucking lamest excuse for a clue I ever laid eyes on! That's no clue, you boob!

Having arguments with your own alters can be amusing reading for the audience, but I've always felt my alter ego needs to prove hirself by walking among you folks, as it were. I think it's bad form to prop my own alter by lending hir the legitimacy that accompanies discourse with me - p2c.

I hate to give out my sleuthing tips, but here is one example of a useful clue when trying to divine an alter's author. Some people persistently misspell certain words in a unique way. If those people make alter egos, it stands to reason that those characters are likely to make the same spelling errors.

I've noted that Shelle persistently and uniquely misspells one particular word in the same way that another longtime TWer misspells it. This isn't hard and fast evidence, but commonality of spelling and grammar errors can point you in the right direction.

I rarely misspell words, fyi. And when I do, WildWind usually makes a reply pointing out the misspellings for my education and humiliation.

You really don't have a life do you?

As pathetic as it is to have made as many posts as you have, it's even worse to think that you also went to the trouble of creating alter egos. People who go to the effort of setting up alter egos really need to take a long hard look at what they are doing with their lives. How many posts has Strawman made in total counting all his alters: half a million?

And when you get down to the level that you start thinking everyoneis an alter ego and "sleuthing", then it really is no suprise you have so little to show for your 37 years except a belly and an old face

I don't think even Bowie is enough to keep me here at the moment. I don't know, either the humour and views of the place have grown further and further away from my own, or I am just less willing to ignore the stuff I don't like. It is a shame as there are a number of people I really like here, and a whole lot more whom I admire. Sadly none of it is enough to make me want to hang around much at the moment.

I may come back, but I don't think I will be posting in any forum on TW for the foreseeable future. As Dara said to me about a few months ago, what is the point of doing something you no longer enjoy.

Well...no, not really. The best times at TW have always consisted of people getting wound up, pissed off, annoyed or antagonised - whether or not they deserve it. I mean, let's face it, we don't come here for the news, do we?

Sure, the anons - and others - are endlessly annoying, but half the fun of this place is seeing just how irritating things can get. Then we get arguments. Then we get some of the greatest threads ever. Just this morning, I was reading the year-old 'Chicks in Bikinis' thread and realised it's probably my favourite non-football-related thread in TW history. It's priceless and characterised by mass bitching, whinging, strops and antagonism. If you've forgotten, for God's sake go and check it out.

But this is going off the point - don't leave us, Pablo!

I blame whoever created the metric system for failing to calibrate the measurements more closely to parts of the human body (i.e. an inch is more or less the length of a knuckle, a foot is, well, a foot). As well, I appreciate France's place in the greater schemes of culture and democracy. Still, whenever I hear the "if it weren't for us, they'd be speaking German" bullcrap, I consistantly risk my life by saying, "but if it weren't for them, we'd be speaking English." Gotta butt in here for a moment..

Acutally, that's not quite accurate. Most US of Aers (to me, American is yet another pompous title) learn history in elementary and high school, maybe even college. However, a general public education usually does not paint the entire historical picture of any major event in time, some aren't even covered.

A more accurate statement would be: Most US of Aers have not learned (or cannot be bothered) to read between the lines and/or research historical events on their own.

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

I was exaggerating on purpose of course. In every nation most people are too lazy to try to figure out the truth on their own.

It seems to me though, that since you saved the world 60 years ago, you tend to forget everything that happened before.

I'd say that's a fairly accurate statement in relation to our Federal gov. Selective memory.

Personally, I do enjoy research and am constantly amazed at new information I dig up on events I'd only heard half the story on and that goes for 99.9% of my friends and family. Missionaries are one good example, in respect to California. Slaughter central.

Of course, my pals and I are the minority here in most respects, right down to something so simple as my preference of a Mac to a Windows PC. I won't even get into the last Gubernator election here and all the backpeddling those who voted him in are now doing.

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

Nope, haven't been to that one. I have been to quite a few up and down the coast. Most have similar tales of the Catholic horrors of convert or die.

On a simlilar note, the city where I currently live (Northern Cal.) had the largest group of Confederate sympathizers on the west coast during the civil war. That's still very apparent today.

I also used to live in San Jose where their St. James park has the horrid memory of one of the only lynchings/hangings by an angry mob. In Gang of Four's words "Not Great Men."

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

True, true. I've always been curious as to what would've happened if the CSA had managed to stand up to the USA. It seems like, if it had collapsed under its own ineffectiveness (or, even better, was smashed by a massive slave rebellion!) quickly enough and the US didn't want to risk further interference, things might have turned out really great in the south. Of course, there also would have been the very real possibility of it degenerating into an even worse corporatocracy than what we've got going on now.

There are certainly a lot of variables to consider, though, most notably up to two world wars (likely just one, had the U.S. stayed out of the first) and the market crash.

Whether I want to play the "what if" game or not (and today I don't), the point is that I fully support any state's secession from the union. The Declaration of Independance practically requires it.

And just where, exactly, did I say they were?

If you look up the definition of confederate in the dictionary you will find a negative connotation though. Conspiratorial and criminal act are words found within.

What I am referring to is the very closed-minded nature of the folks I've encountered who fit the big "c" bill.

A bit of elaboration on your comment would be nice. (Other than a state's right to secede from the union, which I have no problem with, depending on the reasons and methods.)

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

That's really all I'm referring to. It's in our national vocabulary to equate confederate sympathizers with renecks and white supremacists and I find that unfortunate because I am not either one of those two things.

Hey, well I quit for two years and somehow find myself smoking quite often. No log outs for me, tho', I've got my own stinky office.

I'll be out for my usual weekend follies and a soul patrol of a radio show tonight at 8 pm (PST) on KRCB.org.

Any reason for a plug...

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

Dawn Of Realization new [re: Marquis]

Times before I've announced that I'm quitting TW because something or somebody has really gotten on my tits, or that the state of the place was mind-numbingly boring, but those announcements were halfhearted and none of the reasons stated apply to this, the final, wholehearted post announcing my departure.

My reason for leaving is simple - starting tomorrow I'm back in the kitchens which'll require all my time & concentration - plus I'm too old & un-hip for this place.

So in true Strawman fashion, I'll keep this post/announcement short by finishing it with a huge thank you to all at TW who've contributed to my having a wonderful three year experience on the internet

Hundreds Flee Airport Fire in Istanbul
By BENJAMIN HARVEY, Associated Press Writer

2 hours ago UPDATED 35 MINUTES AGO

ISTANBUL, Turkey - A huge fire engulfed the cargo section of Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport on Wednesday, temporarily disrupting air traffic and causing thousands to flee nearby terminals.
Three people were injured, Deputy Gov. Fikret Kasapoglu said, adding that authorities suspected a short-circuit may have caused the fire, which billowed black smoke 100 feet into the air at Turkey's busiest airport.
There was no immediate indication the blaze was terrorism-related.
Private NTV television said the fire began in a section where fuel depots were located.
Planes dropped water onto the flames, and airport authorities said the fire was being tamed. A firefighter atop a tall ladder poured a stream of water on the blaze.
"The fire is under control and we're taking precautions to prevent it from spreading to passenger terminals," said Baris Tozar, the undersecretary of the Transportation Ministry.
"There are no problems concerning flight security," Tozar added.
Airport director Irfan Balta said planes had been successfully moved away from the fire.
The two-story cargo building, located near a hangar housing military aircraft, is used to store international freight arriving in Istanbul. Gov. Muammer Guler of Istanbul said parts of the building collapsed after the fire.
NTV initially reported that some cargo workers may have been trapped inside the burning building, but Guler said no one was trapped.
Private Sky-Turk television reported occasional explosions at the building.
Sky Turk television showed a female airport worker in uniform, apparently affected by the smoke, being treated by medics. Firefighters were seen moving barrels containing chemicals to a safe area.
Millions of tourists pass through the airport each year to reach Turkish resorts on the Mediterranean or Aegean coast. Teenage Wildlife’s own Dogz is one of those tourists, and it’s feared that he might have gone up in smoke.
Radical Islamic, leftist and Kurdish militants are active in Istanbul and Kurdish militants recently claimed responsibility for a huge fire at an Istanbul factory.

Time to punch out, at least temporarily. My most dysfunctional ladyfriend is coming back to the country and moving in with me so there's a good chance I'm too busy getting a nervous breakdown to remember the existence of you fine folks.
No worries though, as far as heinous bitches go, she's on the top of her game so I'll be back sooner or later. Increasingly bitter and drunk as hell...

A bitch iz a bitch new [re: RabbitFighter]

I'm not back but i'm not sure whether I left in the first place. My living arrangement lasted for two days. The psychotic she devil/succubus experienced a neurotic fit and flew back to Britain once she realized she was about to lose her only source of income. Apparently it isn't considered polite to fly to another country without telling your boss you might or might not be quitting your job.

True but at least my years among you fine folks have given me an adequate arsenal of English insults to throw at the lunatic's general direction. It's almost working. The more cold and insulting I've become, the more eager she is to apologize for her erratic behaviour. Some people just love abuse.

PS: Your recent recommendations proved out to be no less than brilliant. Liquid Swords has some tight shit in it...

Triumph of the heart new [re: Marquis]

Just read this whole thread because vI hadn't been in here since last time I logged out in November '03. I namely wanted to see if I'd missed any passionate goodbyes from some of my favourites who are currently assumed AWOL and also to kill the 48 hours of being broke between now and payday. While JonnyManic's retirement hurt, I'm much sadder about RabbitFighter and Anisette's. I miss those two so much.

It also shocks me that posters I respect once cared enough to object when a minge-face like Pablo announced what I assume was his 5th retirement of a total 12

Triumph of the will new [re: Froggy Starlust]

Fuck no. I've just moved and have been paying double rent the last few months. The closest I've come to getting laid is masturbating over the Korean Cylon from Battlestar Galactica and, as of yesterday (we just got cable), watching the TV channel that is comrised of mah jong and fit girls in bikinis 'sumo wrestling' with their breasts interspersed with lingering shots of the winners sensually posing in hotel rooms.

However, Friday is another payday, if I'm to paraphrase Gone With the Wind.

edit: I'm going to bed now. I should be back within 12 hours, but don't wait up

I think I miss you already, though you never thanked me for my latest poem. I won't do requests anymore, the audience is too ungrateful.

Huh. Well, I haven't been here for three months. And I haven't the faintest idea why I'm back now.

OK, I'm back but I'm teaching so I might not post.

Froggy, I'm sorry I didn't comment on your libidinous (and litigation prone, if Kurt Cobain's estate gets wind of it) poem. If you'd said anything about my four part reflection on the Sea of Fertility cycle I might care, so we're even.

Q: What's the difference between Michael Jackson and a plastic bag?
A: One is made of plastic and is dangerous to kids, while the other is used to carry your groceries home.

Well, I'm outta here. Thanks to the few active posters left for your joint collaborative effort in making this place completely unpleasant. I probably sound like a douche. I don't care. To anyone who actually wants to stay in touch (the people I do like, you should know who you are), my e-mail is lumpy_monkey@hotmail.com.

And for those who think they might miss me, don't worry: I'll still be posting regularly as my hilarious female alter-ego, "Shelle".

Ooo. Tempting to stay a way a little while longer to let this little rumor grow, but self restraint was never my strong point.
