When you...

Check to see who is online, and someone else is listed as doing the same, do you do a mental wave of "hello!"?

Actually, I like to think I'm waving my dick at them as they stare helpless and horrified.

We all have different ways of saying hello.

No, I feel like I've been caught doing something naughty. Like if you look into the window of a neighbour and become horrified to see they're looking out and can see you. "Shit!"

I was thinking the other day, when you look at "Who's Online" you always see yourself "Looking at Who's Online." No matter how quick you look. But what happens when you have two windows open and one of them has you looking at who's online and the other is replying to a PM? What do people checking who's online see you doing?

Am I suspended in gaffa?

These days it'd be far more interesting if TW had an Who's Offline facility.

Then, if ones favourite posters were on there one could logout immediately.

Re: When you... new [re: Vanessa_Y]

In all seriousness, I was viewing Who's Online two days ago & Prism was there so I PMed him with a query about TW chat - after 10 minutes or so he still hadn't replied, so I sent another PM to him calling him a miserable twat - a couple of minutes later he PMed me back saying he'd been in the shower - so really, what we need from the Who's Online facility is a detailed account of what users are actually doing.

example - Auntie Prism - User - cracked actor - 08/30/06 05:32 AM - Showering

In these days when so many old users have gone, I am afraid that uploading the list of everybody who's offline would use up all bandwidth and possibly wreck TW's server terminally.

Hm, of course I had to try it: opening a second window doesn't seem to change my status from "checking who's online" in the first. But what an outsider sees I don't know.

It's LABRYNTH, idiot!

Maybe Strawman will lend you an alter, so that you can see yourself from an outsider's point of view.

This sounds good. If TW's software was anything like that of a chat program's, you would be able to change your 'current status' to 'showering', or 'out shopping', or even 'sheep shagging'.

Strawie, why are you not visible on Who's Online anyway? I've heard that everyone who makes themselves invisible is embarrassed, quite rightly, of the amount of time they spend at TW, and, so that other users can't gauge exactly how sad their life is, they make themselves hidden so they can prowl in the shadows.

I think Who's Online only registers one's most recent actions. So, if you clicked Who's Online first in one window, and then opened a thread in a second window, you would appear to everybody else as reading a thread. When watching yourself on Who's Online, the time doesn't remain the same as it does with other users; when watching yourself, you appear top of the list every time it updates. I don't think this would be the case for someone else watching you.

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head . . .
