Yeah, I mean, he happily waddles around here, surrounded on all sides by people who despise him and would kick his front teeth out as soon as look at him...

My guess is that at an earlier age, a parent or concerned person told Dogz that he's special and everybody likes him, and as long as he is himself, people will flock to be his friends.

And he's been holding onto these delusions ever since...
