Mick McCann here,
I've just self published a book entitled, 'Coming out as a Bowie fan in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. – The memoirs of a Punk Romantic.'
Involving a Bowie obsession and stepping out in make-up and effeminate clothing aged 13/14 (1977/78) in a tough, gritty, northern, English city - think The Full Monty/Billy Elliot/Kes but rougher.
Covering topics such as:

May be not as 'rough' (downtrodden) as Kes but going through certain areas of the city centre, mid to late '70s, dressed like a 'freak' was very, very dangerous. The city growled.
I've not seen Road House, but guess that you've nailed it.

I like manners, they cost nowt.
Surely it's rude to just post on a forum without getting permission? Like going into a strangers house and putting the kettle on.

Tell me about it, Mick. Living just a little further north (Middlesbrough), although I never got all Ziggied-up (except once, on a psychedleic evening in Darlington - but that's another story), I took my life in my hands on more than one occasion in punky garb between mid 76 and mid 77.
Then one day in mid 77 The Clash played The Rock Garden (first time I met Joe Strummer) and me and my mates turned up to discover a couple of hundred Sid Vicious clones queued up outside.
"Where the fuck did you lot come from?" we asked.
Things were different (and better) after that, but it was touch and go for a while.

It's a free forum, people post stuff without asking for permission every day.
Besides, I'm bad-mannered mod (as opposed to Ohro who's the mod everyone loves), so it's a part of my job description to be ill-mannered.
