Eragon isn't better than Krull. At least Krull - while unbelievably stupid - had some original aspects. I said some.

Kerbed enthusiasm new [re: Marquis]

Super Spoilers

Marquis:

In reply to:

The Descent - A massive disappointment. I had heard this billed as the best horror movie of recent memory, but it was more like a cross between Alien: Resurrection and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Shoddy characters, silly monsters, one big snoozerama.

The scariest part of that film was when the woman who lost her daughter was squeezing through that tight part of the cave and the earth was quaking.... basically, claustrophobia to me is scarier than blind bat humanoids.

In reply to:

Little Miss Sunshine:I really think it should be against the law to ever kill off Alan Arkin in any movie, as he is the best part about 95% of the movies he's in.

He is the funniest old man on the planet and the best part of the movie, while the pull-over/porn scene was magic to my funny bone

The in-the-box Sys says this about the Prestige:

In reply to:

The film was clearly building up to a big surprise ending but there was no surprise what-so-ever, which took the edge off an otherwise fantastic film and left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth.

I thought the point of the movie was the personality shift of Hugh Jackman's character during the course of the movie which uses the 'trick' but how the trick shows Jackman's character was more intriguing to me than the actual trick, I mean, he was killing himself everytime for a fuckin' trick!!!

What's this all about??

In reply to:

Eragorn:...better than Krull.

A movie that has giant spiders, a crushed cyclops, and a giant ninja throwing star beats out a LOTR wannabe anyday, just by sheer originality.

In reply to:

As a matter of interest how do you think Casino Royale compared with Die Another Day?

I actually liked Die Another Day better (it too was a crap movie, but slightly less crap than Casino Royale). The structure of the script was better, and it had the main things I've come to expect from Bond movies: corny jokes and impossible machines (although the invisible car was overdoing it a bit).

I was also going to reply to ghostlove about The Prestige but my quite fewerish brain could not formulate my thoughts about the movie into actual words.

Q: What's the difference between Michael Jackson and a plastic bag?
A: One is made of plastic and is dangerous to kids, while the other is used to carry your groceries home.

inland empire...new lynch flick, shot entirely on digital film...abstract, difficult, genius. i need to watch it more before i say too much on it, but it was definitely worth the three hours.

pan's labyrinth...go see this movie. it wasn't originally what i expected, but it surpassed what i had...a perfect blend of fairy tales and harsh reality.

hands up, WHO WANTS TO DIE!

Your right now I come to think of it - Krull is 'awesome'? - look at the talent the film harvested - Robbie Coltraine, Liam Neeson and Mark Fowler out of Eastenders.

It's one of those films that you rented out on Betamax in 1985 and you thought "Wow, look at the special effects and shit".

Re: Movies you've seen recently new [re: looking glass]

I too saw Pan's Labyrinth recently, one of the best movies I've seen in the last year.

I saw Black Book last night, which looked great but was trying to hard to be cool with its ambiguous characters. And the heroine wasn't quite as pretty as she looked in the newspaper.

Temperature's rising, but any idiot would know that...

Nope, I just really hated Casino Royale.
