I haven't seen or heard enough of Patrick Wolf yet to have any well-founded opinons of him. I liked his performance on Conan, and it seems that there's something in his movements/gestures that remind of Bowie. He has a gangly grace about him. Or, perhaps it's just the creamy, shuddering thigh meat that makes me nostalgic.

M-M-M-M-M-MIKA!!! new [re: Starlite]

I went to see him again, Starlite, and he was just as good as before if not better. The stage set was cool and there was a great atmosphere. But here's the scary bit - there were children at the gig. Not teenagers. Under 11s!!! What's that all about? I wasn't allowed to go to a concert until I was 14. I suppose they were accompanied by adults, but I think it was really the adults who wanted to go see Mika and used their kids as an excuse. Right now, it seems it's not very cool to like Mika in the UK. Like I care! Fuck you, doubters - he rocks!

And that is all.

Re: M-M-M-M-M-MIKA!!! new [re: ladymacbeth]

Not fair, LadyM! I want to see him so bad. I have got tickets for one of his gigs, and I wanted to go to two, but the second one within travelling distance had to be on my mother's birthday.

I think there are a lot of kids who really are into him, though. On his fan forums, the ages span from 14 to people in their 50s, and some of the older women say that their children are also huge fans, and in fact sometimes the kids were the ones who got them into him. His music is definitely poppy enough to appeal to children as well as adults, I think.

And of course it's not "cool" to like him, he's a super-hyped new pop artist! But we all know he's amazing. And who can resist a man who decides to wear a chicken suit onstage?

Re: your saying he got better: I'm so proud of him though. He exploded so fast in the UK that he didn't really have that much experience performing shows--I mean, he'd done opera chorus and school musical theatre before and all that, but it's a different type of thing. So watching him do this tour is like following his learning curve--and you really can see how he's coming into his own as a performer, becoming more confident on stage, etc. He commands the floor a lot better now, and is more comfortable with his act, like with how he really gets into interacting with the Big Girl dancers, whereas before he seemed uncertain of how to integrate them into his performance. And considering that he had mad charisma and stage presence to start with, I bet he's really great to see now.

Anyway, if he doesn't break America, I think I will have to visit you to see him live. So prepare for that. Though I'm glad we get him in smaller venues here. I don't care if he can't have a full circus on stage, I just want to be able to see him jump around up close.

I assume the same goes for Donal Duck suits?

You are more than welcome any time, my lady, if you think you can take it in the good old North of England.

The venues I've seen him at have been fairly small and intimate but it's only a matter of time before he rocks out the stadiums.

By the way, I have tickets for... PRINCE!!!

Well, Mika is a fan of Elton John, and has admitted to counting him among his major influences. (Or maybe it's other people that did so, but either way). So in fact it's even possible that the chicken costume was a nod to ole sir Elton.

But Mika's much cuter.

Lady M, even though I think Prince is lovely and I wish I could like him for his dress style alone, I never really got into his music. So I think you'd be better off directing your bragging at RabbitFighter or something.

Crazy talk!

Honesly, could anyone ever write lyrics as great as these:

In the beginning, God made the sea
But on the seventh day, he made me
He was tryin' to rest y'all, when he heard a sound
Sound like a guitar, cold gettin' down
Tried to bust a hot note, but I bust a string
My God was worried, til he heard me sing
(OW!) MY NAME IS PRINCE

And if that wasn't enough, he's also one of the most badass guitar shredders of all time.

They let the retard in the game and he went wild.

I don't deny he's awesome, but the fact remains that I also don't enjoy his songs.

I enjoyed that whole thing with the fan trying to hump him on stage a few days ago, though.

Re: At the 3:30 mark, hold on to your jaw new [re: Marquis]

listen, i admire prince, some of his songs are absolutely fanfuckingtastic, he's an AMAAAAAAAAZING musician, probably something like a modern-day Mozart, but there have been times when i would rather gag myself with a plastic hanger than listen to another prince song. sometimes he's too flashy and spectacular for his own good. and sometimes he hiccups too many times in one song. :)

and when evening paints the streets it's like walking on a trampoline
