Here's where I need help: I can't make up my mind between buying myself an Olympic White Strat, or a Fiesta Red. Each is made by a boutique builder and has better tone than Fender.

The red one reminds me of British rock and pop like Rebel Rebel. I'm afraid the white one will not inspire me to write. What songs can you write on a white guitar?

White is definitely a show guitar. But then, should you be writing music on your best guitar? Definitely on a good guitar, but I think you should always have something a little bit better on hand for show time. The improved sound will give you extra confidence when you need it the most.

I particularly enjoyed the Black 47 cut. I got Larry Kirwan's "Green Suede Shoes" last year and the companion disc, and it took me a while to get into it because I didn't dig Kirwan's voice, at first. But, hell if it ain't infectious. I started noticing subtle nuances in his vocal expression that I really appreciated, and his writing skills.. Songs and otherwise.

I got a whole lotta love for a rock star in glasses.
