Personally I probably will get my girlfriend a present. It's a great way to build up brownie points so that the next time she has to bodily drag me out of the pub and into an ambulance, she won't mind quite so much...

It's this attitude I dislike. Needing to "score points" with a girl puts her on a higher level than you. If she's on a higher level, who is she going to look up to in the relationship?

Why does either one need to "look up" to anyone in a relationship?
That and if you've ever had a man get so drunk he puked on you, (in his sleep)you would feel like he owed you something.
