I Like SOD and wouldn't compare them to any of the shit Numetal that's out there. They have a unique personality with good changes in their songs. Also, they sound awesome in a car stereo. Tool is more heavy and more prog-metal than SOD and the two aren't that comparable IMO

Certainly on the former, the latter depends on whether laughing *at* the band counts towards their own sense of humor. They still rule, though.

And it should be noted that as contributors to a David Bowie message board, none of us really has the right to brand *anything* as too pretentious.

The idea of wanting to listen to rock out air guitar music with a sense of humour and a social conscience really doesn't include the SODs, schizo, especially when you consider that Tool possess all those qualities and are actually awesome. Isn't it surprising that the former can ape the latter yet sound worse in every way. I thought all rip-offs were inherently better.

I think of System of a Down and Tool of being like the start of 2001: the hairy, stupid, knuckle-dragging apes find something amazing that makes them smarter, yet more dangerous. Sadly, they didn't beat themselves to death, instead trying to do their best to us.

Seriously though, it's embarrassing that you can take Tool and subtract the intelligence, the musical ability, the nuance, any humour above the lowest commo denominator and substitute one of the best vocalists of his generation with a talentless hack who so patently can't sing that he resorts to a variety of teeth-pulling-esque tics (including the worst MCing that side of Mike Skinner) to try to hide that.


Obviously, this is all just my opinion and I know I can't change anyone's mind.
