With Barbara Billingsley and Tom Bosley dying within days of each other, maybe it's time to create a "Old-Sitcom-Parents-Dead-Pool" subsection.

Ariana Foster (a.k.a Ari Up, lead singer of The Slits), has died at the age of 48. The news was posted on John Lydon's website (Ari is Lydon's stepdaughter). Doesn't seem to be any more info forthcoming, other than that she died "after a serious illness."

The Slits are a band I just got into and it is amazing how young she was when she started (14) and how good they were. What is freaky is I just out of the blue looked up her bio from a few pages the night before she died and I had no idea she was sick. A real original, she is.

Bob Guccione died. I feel obliged to give Caligula a viewing in tribute to the man.

Maggie recovered. Fate does not even grant me those few points she had left :-/

Leslie Nielsen's dead.

Jesus, it's going to be depressing watching Airplane! when you realise that almost all of the major players are now dead - Stephen Stucker, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Peter Graves, and now Leslie Nielsen. Oh well, at least Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are still kicking around.

Actually, considering that Peter Graves, Barbara Billingsley and Leslie Nielsen all kicked the bucket this year, 2010 is not a good year for Airplane! alumni.

What a pisser of a thing to happen in the 30th anniversary year of The Empire Strikes Back - Irvin Kershner, who directed that movie, has died, aged 87. 2010 is also the 20th anniversary of RoboCop 2, also directed by Kershner (but not quite as fondly remembered ).

And even worse: George Lucas is still alive.

I think the real George Lucas died sometime in the mid-80s and a wobble-necked shill has taken his place since then.
