The Show Must Go On

I was listening to my local Alternative rock station this morning (fucking Metallica mongers, but I still listen for some god awful reason) when I heard them mention something about a movie in the works revolving around the life and times of Freddie Mercury. Apparently, there are a handful of big shot Hollywood screen monkeys vying for the role, soooo, I was just wondering who you guys think would be able to pull off Freddie Mercury... (No, I'm not asking which of those among us is capable of making a dead Gay man come by means of manual stimulation, though I know you wish that's what I meant and I'm sure there are plenty of you.)
I'm gonna say Sasha Baron Cohen, cos let's face it, he's kind of channeling Freddie with that moustache and the bright yellow slingshot.

Eddie Murphy. He has the same kind of hyperactiveness as Freddie which I think is more important than just the looks. Unfortunatly he is a bit too old. Also he failed to get into that character acting thing so far, so I doubt he would be the right one...
So much about people *not* playing Freddie Mercury.
Guy Pearce could have the acting qualities. I am not sure about his on stage performance but for th calm moments he could be right. Also Christian Bale would be able to capture the mysterious something one gets a glimpse of when Freddie is talking in interviews.

Actually, if he can act (as opposed to doing his act), I'd say Sacha Baron Cohen would be quite a good choice, looks-wise.

I think that's basically what you were saying, though.

What about the worst possible actor they could choose? Just for fun...
I'll say Dakota Fanning.

Highly unlikely, though... Looks like they're already priming her for a Twiggy biopic. Only Hollywood actress they could keep under 80 lbs. She's teeny tiny, too, so she really doesn't need that much yayo. Just a dab'll keep the grumblies away.

Also slightly too African to play an Indian.

I believe Freddie was Iranian, definitely Middle Eastern and most certainly not East Indian.
I'd go w/Sacha. He'd likley pull that role off very well. Question is does he like Queen. I'd think it would be hard to act a part you don't care about at all. (all monies aside, of course)
It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

Sadly, Wayland Flowers is dead. As a second choice, I'll say Alan Hawker.
Unless Doug Henning is still alive...

(what's that? three of my favorite frequently-used references all in a neat little line? awesome.)

Indeed - without the moustache the resemblance is even better than I imagined. He looks a lot like the Miracle/Innuendo Freddie.

Also I could imagine him delivering the two most important lines completly authentic way: "Hello - I am Kim Basinger" and "Interviews? Oh, don't be rediculous!"
But concerning the stage appearance it will be difficult to top this.

I believe Fred was born in Zanzibar. Eddie Murphy? He's a negro, and an annoying one at that.

Freddie came from a persian family which moved from India to Sansibar when he was born.
Eddie Murphy does not look more like Freddie than any other guy with a mustache, which is why I pointed out that the behavior in that case would be much more important than the looks.
