The CD is the world's best bargain

Hi. I realize I'm writing this thread in the iPod age, where most buy their songs one at a time, online. I just can't see the joy of ordering an invisible product, only to be listened to.
The CD is the world's best toy to buy. Think of it. You buy it, it's a piece of plastic joy, with a cover that artists put a lot of love, thought and effort into.
The CD takes you to another world, you hold it in your hands, you put it around your head while you walk or run barren, desolate landscapes.
I just can't see the delight in buying something for the iPod. It's like buying air. I want the toy, full color, like secret equipment from the back pages of a comic book, shrouded in mystery, delight and wonder.

to_dizzy is incorrect. Heroin is the world's best bargain.

In that case, I might be willing to accept the CD as the second-best bargain.

Supposedly vinyl has greater frequency ranges, which are interesting to listen to, if you have dog-like hearing.
Summary version:
Good:
MP3: convenient to carry/transfer/copy Vinyl: makes nice collector's items
Bad:
CD: useless as collector's items (being smaller than LPs; also they scratch easily, and their cases crack). They also take considerable storage space (marginally less than vinyl, but they have to be stacked appropriately to avoid case damage).
Conclusion: Burn CDs to save on winter fuel.

I don't mind the crackle it adds to the character of the record itself. You take it for what it is. As for stacking. Well I guess it makes you more of a responsible owner.
The other advantage of a record is the Artwork all 1 square foot of it.
having said all that I would only buy vinyl for special albums not any old album.
I heard Stevie Wonder's Innervisions in the weekend on vinyl. It sounded amazing. A great album too.
I've already got the Bowie stuff but I would really like to get some Nina Simone on record. Must hunt some down in the weekend.
