As the thread winds its way steadily back on course …
The NYT is suggesting the possibility of US intervention. I'm sure an intervention would be a) moderately popular among US citizens b) a quick campaign c) in the interests of the safety of Libyan civilians d) an excellent opportunity to export US democracy to an Arab oil-based economy …
If history were to teach us anything, what could possibly go wrong?

Socialist?
According to himself, yes, just as Gaddafi's Libya is "Great Socialist People's" Republic and is supposedly ruled by a direct democracy without political parties.

Hard to know whether to laugh or cry on a day when the new Government here announces that despite our crippling debt, there will be no income tax increase on the wealthy, no property tax introduced on their houses, but the poorest in the country are going to have to pay for their water from here on in.
Earthquakes might be a welcome diversion at this point.

Mother nature sure seems to have something against the southern hemisphere this year, what with all the floods and fires and earthquakes. Maybe we should prepare for the coming of Gozer.

I wondered at the time if that means R/R lives in Japan. Does anyone know?
I'm supposed to be hit by the wave midnight tonight (it's 3 PM right now). Yipee.
