2011 Dead Pool new [re: ]

These threads are quite popular, apparently. Given that Monkeyboy is currently livin' the Rock 'n' Roll dream on Myspace, I figured I'd leap in.

1) You have until 20 January to present a list of ten candidates. Or, since I suspect that 20 Jan is restrictive, simply announce a death in a timely fashion, i.e. before AP reports that x has been carted off to intensive care.

2) Will someone bored enough please trawl through last year's thread and announce the winner?

Ok, good.

I won't be playing, though, cos I'm catholic.

You've located the problem with this competition, which is that it's so laborious to check every entry. It's best that people from last year's competition go through the thread and declare their own scores, so that we only need check the winner's.

Perhaps this year it would be better if we introduce a spin-off, in which TWers are personally responsible for bumping off celebrities, declaring their involvement, with photographic evidence, so that the ultimate winner can be decided by a simple body count.

It'd be simpler still, and more fun, if the game were to kill as many fellow TWers as possible. My initial thought would be to assign points both for the victim's total post count, and for their length of time away from TW. That way the nostalgia one felt upon seeing p2c run through with a rusty awl would be properly rewarded with maximum points.

Let me replace Dakota Fanning with Jean Paul Belmondo. She probably ages rather well for a child star (she even looks way less creepy than a few years ago) and therefore won't help me getting points by abusing drugs...
Belmondo on the other hand just has to die some day. i mean... 1933... technical he'd temper with too much the statistics if he didn't.
Also they would repeat all the movies on tv, especially those which never saw a DVD release.

Keef will never die. He looks like he's been one off for 20 years, but he's never going to die. He'll be like Cher and roaches: the only thing surviving after a nuclear holocaust.

Nelson Mandela was reported dead the other day on Twitter. It was falsified, and the reason behind it was that because of Wacko Jacko's death in 09, people get in a tizzy and start reporting random deaths. The other one that they reported with Mandela was Justin Bieber. Now that's something I wouldn't mind dead.

I'm putting in Regis because his sudden retirement is a bit shady. He made no talk about retiring before the official word, and I'm thinking maybe he has 6 months to live or something because he's got some terminal illness.

Or I could be completely wrong and now Lindsay is gonna OD tomorrow. Watch... that'll be a kick in the balls for sure. haha

I'm curious as to how I managed to write 1994 rather than 94. It is a rather glaring mistake. The only explanation I can think of is that, at the time I was writing that post, I was deciding to re-listen to The Holy Bible by the Manic Street Preachers today, and that album came out in 1994.

Wild Wind, Kevin McCarthy, the actor in Invasion of the body snatchers, passed on September 11th of last year.

So he did. I got four points last year, God dammit! I think it's the first time I've ever scored in this game.

And FUCK! I had Jeff Conaway in my 2009 list. :(

73 points, woohoo! That's a tad more exciting than those 2 points I scored with Louise Bourgeois last year.

Now I only need a little help from either Chuck Berry or Kirk Douglas to take the lead. Fingers crossed!

I was wondering if Bowie counts as a member of the 27 club as well, having been technically dead for most of 1974 and 1975.

God Dammit new [re: th0mas]

I never picked Amy Winehouse 'cause I thought she was too obvious. I guess she was.

My strategy of picking old fuckers who are already half dead isn't going very well.

Good call Mxy, if he was going to ever die young then this would have definitely been the period it happened.

I went to a restaurant that serves 'breakfast at any time'. So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

Jani Lane would have been a great 53-point choice. Wish I'd thought of it.

And he was born "John Kennedy Oswald." Shit, that sounds more like a heavy metal moniker than "Jani Lane."

Also - man, he really hated having written "Cherry Pie." I hope it doesn't get played at his funeral. That would be insensitive.

Jopie Heesters was 108, so it would have been -8 points for predicting his death, I said he'd live, he died, shouldn't it be +8 points for me then?
