Another board I particpate in has peeps being able to choose their own title after 1000 posts. I've been here since day 1 of the 'new' TW boards and I'm only just over 1500 posts, do we have to wait till 5000 to choose our own? It's rather fun when everyone has earnt their own titles but it's goig to take a long time or some extreme time/bandwidth wasting to get to 5000 for most of us.

So what, Adam's supposed to spend all of his time granting new titles to everyone who's been here for over 12 months or something? That seems like a waste to me, particularly since there will then be about 20 threads of 'So what do you think my title should be?' or 'I don't like my new title, Adam, can you change it for the 14th time?'

Other moderators on lots of other boards enjoy the interaction with the posters and some of the titles conjured up are quite clever. But if Marquis says we can't do it here well then, who am I to argue?

Believe me, only at Teenge Wildlife would you get piles of threads about "what should my title be?". I've never seen that juvenile crap on any other board.

My point was that TW already offers you usernames, gifs, sigs, etc., so do we *really* need personalized titles? Personally, I kind of like the fact that they're uniform, as it gives you a rough idea of how long someone's been around/how much they contribute.
If I had to vote, I'd have voted against Sysyio and Claude getting special titles. But I don't really care all that much.

Yeah I get your point. But in reality, considering bandwidth etc are big issues, I'd rather see the gifs go out the door and personalised titles after say, 2000/2500 posts come in. A couple of words doesn't take up bandwidth on the site but gifs take up much more, especially considering the amount that are used on every page.
One of these days I'll set the trend and get rid of mine (I think it's glitterbot who already has?). But while they're still here, I still kind of like the little Balloon man so I'll keep him a tad longer.

Don't take my pictures! They may be wasteful, but they're fun. Also, I think Glitterbot just got lazy.

Speaking of lazy, that's the real reason behind my stance on individual titles: I just don't want to have the pressure on me to think of a clever title for myself.

It took me over three years to get over 5000 posts... and, I must admit, much of that was archieved by posting a lot of crap, particularly during my first year. Also, there is the fact that apparently there are no new titles after Acolyte. Also, there are very few people fho actually make it to 5000... thus far only me and Claude have made it, and this MB has been around, what, four years?

I don't have a gif because my image hosting rights were taken away (damn you, boomspeed!) and I've been too lazy to go find another one that actually has the image on a blank page, not just in a photo album where it has no URL.

I hope it doesn't become a trend, I like everyone's little identifying pictures.
