seduce Evan? Bring a sheep new [re: twister]

Hi, Evan.

If you buy a new server, I promise Iīll buy a digicam.

Jokes apart, Iīd love to see TW in a new server. The downsides sounds upseting. How much time is it needed to store everything in the new server - a weekend, or a month? If you can handdle to do this without spoiling your work time, I think you should try and dedicate some of your time to TW, since you havenīt really been around in a lot of time But I think itīs really up to you, and what you plan for the future of TW...

Subject new [re: Evan Torrie]

Well, the harsh reality is that as long as we all stay here and continue talking, the server is only going to continue to fill up, and will continually need "cleaning". In the long run getting your own server might be easier to deal with. Of course I realize you don't have the same drive to work on this site you once had, so i don't want to push anything that would cause to much a disturbance to your routine these days.

And if you do decide to get a server, you might want to consider putting something like this on the site:

Most of us spend so much time here I'm sure many would be willing to help with the financial burden; banner ads can only do so much.

The interesting news. As only Ruskie can give it to you.

Re: A Suggestion new [re: Evan Torrie]

I like Ruskie's idea of the Paypal donation link... I know that I certainly would donate- perhaps more than once. Heck, maybe even once a month. I used to pay $6/month to access Bowienet, and I don't do that anymore, so donating it here is much better!
Thanks for cutting down the size of CP, I am happy to be able to get into it again to post, and read, and just hang out. I haven't missed any of my PMs or anything yet, nor have I ever really searched for any old posts.
As for getting a dedicated server, I think that would ROCK! The increased cost could (hopefully) be partly covered by the donations in the above suggestion. Transition time/downtime I could deal with

And to Tati- buy that digital cam! Please!

just my two cents,
alys

...or I could go to Calgary and borrow yours new [re: Alys]

Hi, Alys. :)

Just a question: how much it costs to buy a new server? Thatīs something I have absolutely no idea. Is it U$300, or U$3000? If it helps, I could try and donate money too (I still paying for BowieNet and I donīt even go there anymore! hmph!).

However, some people may misunderstand a donation with buying a service, and start to really annoy Evan demanding this and that.

The Future new [re: Tati_wl]

I think that if a new server ensures the future of this wonderful site which provided so many fun, interesting and happy moments, their should be a new server.

I wouldn't mind donating as well.

Maybe I'm here, but on my side this past day, it seems like TW has been slowing down again. But maybe it'll pass...

Um, Evan? new [re: Evan Torrie]

In reply to:

Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and buy a dedicated server. [...] It would allow me to restore the old posts, as well as do drastic improvements on the speed and usability of the site.

Has any kind of decision been made on this front? It's just as ashamed as I ought to be being emotionally attached to posts on a message board I'm actively missing old posts. Reading older posts here has always been a large part of the attraction of the place, for me, at least. Or if you're deciding not to do the whole expensive, post-restorin', speed-increasin' upgrade thing, any idea of an estimate as to when you'd maybe get a chance to archiving older posts for public access? I mean, should the answer be November 2027 then that's the answer and I'll just have to make my peace with it, I would just be grateful at having some kind of idea as to what the answer might actually be, regardless of how much I may or may not like it, if answering that sort of question is at all possible.

Cheers.

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.
