The return of the fat black "Oops" new [re: twister]

The board has been a bit slow lately and today I got the first "Oops" message I've seen since the purge.

It's not that surprising, since Evan indicated that the database was still too big even after the purge, and since there's been a lot of activity lately surrounding the new album and upcoming concerts in addition to all the petty bickering.

I've removed those two mammoth posts of mine in the ugly backlash thread. I don't know if that on its own will help, but it certainly can't hurt since the only reason it was two posts was that it was too big to be one.

Right now it's as fast as ever, but I fear that is temporary. The trend would certainly seem to indicate that we still have a problem. Where do we go from here?

Yes, I've noticed the slowness too. And another thing I've noticed today is that when I click on a subject I sometimes get taken back to the beginning of the thread instead of only the posts I haven't read.
Damn, that was a long sentence.

bug new [re: Tristan]

Tristan, the same is happening with me: when I click in a thread, instead of taking me to the last new-post, I go to the first.
I didn´t notice any "slowness" or "Oops" messages yet, but there might be something wrong going on

A couple of months on... new [re: twister]

So given the whole pre-2002 fiasco, are we to assume the aforementioned hypothetical dedicated server plan isn't likely to come into fruition?

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.

Corner Chestnut and Low new [re: Ruskie]

There was a story on a website today—yahoo news, iirc—concerning the banning of certain ISPs from the internet archive http://web.archive.org on the grounds of rampant Hawkerism. I decided to try out its archive features on TW's very own Conversation Piece, and voila!

Highlights discovered so far:

Arianna Huffington is an articulate, vibrant woman – p2c.

Unfair Gender Rules – Phoenix

Why Are Bowie Fans Getting Younger and Stupider? – some newbie

Attention Athiests – we're fucked – R/R

Things that suck – jumptheysay

As you may guess from the above selection, the archive is vastly incomplete and there are infinite numbers of dead links. (The last of the above was included only because it featured a number of now-famous TWers as kooks/tomatoes, etc.) The archive is slow and there doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to which threads work/don't work. But, obviously, if you're bored (like Clover) or procrastinating (like me) then it might provide some amusement.

Remember, I was 16 and this was pre-9/11... it was a different world.

Someday Sweetheart new [re: Remade/Remodeled]

I hadn't actually read the threads when I linked them, above, for future reference.

Needless to say, yours was the first I read, and ye gods, it is cringeworthy.

Still, I noticed that my 'I hate sports' thread is in one of the archives. After seeing my preschool phraseology on another archived thread, I was too scared to click on it.

Hey haaay! The archive also allows privileged access to PMs (which were presumably 'hits' on the day the archive was taken). If you folks want to see piccies of Ruskie flashing his wang for Androgene's admiration, you know who to call.

You're the limit TOO MUCH FOR ME new [re: Auntie Prism]

And finally, before this turns into an obsession, two awesome threads:

1) Would you room with a homosexual? – Dice. A thread I actually remember.

2) Is pornography 'sexist'? – White Prism. I tried to find the embarrassing 'sports' post mentioned above, but this is probably second best for its failure at hip irony. I did eventually (later) resolve this question, by the way, modifying Glitterbot's answer somewhat, but what you didn't know was that eraserhead was the girlfriend in question. [I ought to wink or somethin', but all smilies are inappropriate here.]
