This doesn't seem at all counter-productive to you?

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.

With banning anons in mind, I might also suggest that members should be enabled to register one time only.

How would you monitor that? All it takes to register is a valid e-mail adress. And registering an e-mail adress is the easiest thing to do. Plus there is no way to check that the name which you give is real. (Yes, I'm registered twice, I'm not going to deny it. I have use the other username anymore, though).

I still, however, think that those of us with a brain should avoid Coffee Shop until the trolls die.

Or we could continue posting in the Coffee Shop, cause you know that quote: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick... For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

No. Trolls' desire isn't to drive people away; quite the contrary, it's to generate attention. Activity in the Coffee Shop, even if it's not directed at the trolls themselves, suggests that there's a whole sea of ripe respondents to terrorise and from whom they can elicit responses. Remove the respondents, and the trolls will wander elsewhere.

My opinion toward quotations as gospel aside...

Seriously, I'm not talking about posters who just have a lot to learn, I'm talking about trolls who are irredeemable. No matter how much positive influence there is in what they perceive as their little playground, they'll never be anything but trolls. They'll stick to the meaningless threads, or start their own, as long as there are people around to say "You're insane," or "Am I the only one who didn't understand that?" or even simply, "Shut up!"

Anyway, I don't suppose it would be effective in the long run. Even if they went away for a while, they, or new ones, would come back when activity picks up again.

I'm just tired of the noise.

That's just an extreme notion, even for me... new [re: WildWind]

Counter-productive in the sense that if posters "with brains" vavcate the forum you're abandoning it to posters without. It's like we're furnishing a house, and there's three kinda of people in the house. 1. People that throw shit at the walls and giggle, 2. People that stare bemusedly at the shit-throwers, converse with them, etc. and 3. People that don't even acknowledge the shit-throwers and just focus on painting the walls pretty colours.

Encouraging the third type of person to leave the house is only going to make matters worse.

Unless you're encouraging everyone to abandon coffee shop for a couple of weeks or so. But we all know they aren't going to.

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.

Re: A Suggestion About Anons new [re: twister]

I do understand the sentiment of wanting a forum where anon posters are not.

We CAN HAVE A PUBLIC FORUM and a private forum requiring proper ids.

However: as you seem excited about this post.... Please explain in public what you find so disturbing about the following (cut and pasted here for clarity) so we all be dicusing the same topics and context. Thanks.

.
Okay folks, over to you to respond, critique, deconstruct or psychoanalyze. let's discuss the problem. barricading ourselves behind lofty ideals and language won't do it. We need your input, opinion and discussion.

It isnít about Pink Floyd or Radiohead or slagging-off Bowie so itís not worthy of Twisterís attention (and therefore anathema to his disciples).

Okay. these Atloid-defenders baffle me. Yes, this partiulcar post wasn't completely useless, but let 99% of altoid's posts contain the word "cum-bucket!!!!!!!!!!!!" It got awfully annoying reading the same things over and over again. Maybe you enjoy reading about how you are a "cum bucket!!!!!!!!!!!!" and need to "fucking die!!!!!!!!!", if so, I'm sure there is a particular website where you can go to be abused by a bunch of people with lower than average intelligence and a propensity for cum-related insults.

Wow! Did twister actually say that? Why, I don't think that's very much like him at all! What on Earth could have prompted him to say something so vulgar?

It takes a brave man like you to expose twister for who he really is.

Now shut the fuck up, dickhead.

screw you, I'm going to the duck pond.
