None of you addressed the original question and the cluttering of this thread with little images makes it impossible to load.

Does anybody have a well-formed opinion on the difference between the Ribbon and Trophy post icons?

I'm sorry. As the images load very fast on my computer (despite the internet connection usually being somewhat slow) I didn't realize they would cause problems to some viewers.

Alas, no, I have no idea what the ribbon stands for, other than that it looks cool. Maybe ribbon = this is cool, or deserves a special commendation, and trophy = this wins first place?
