Happy birthday everybody!

Now let's never have a happy birthday thread again.

It's not that I don't like Sysiyo or Wraith2 (I do, I was actually the first one who wished W a happy birthday), it's just that they (the birthday threads, not the posters) seem kind of meaningless to me, like a waste of space. A lot of them also feel forced. It's like, to not wish someone a happy birthday is to declare war on that someone. And you don't wanna go to war, so, instead, you put on a fake smile and say the words.

Also, half of all the people wishing someone a happy birthday probably haven't even talked to the guy before. And what do you do when your board enemy has a birthday thread and everybody's wishing him a happy birthday but you?

And please don't think I'm just a jealous guy who's pissed because he didn't get a birthday thread dedicated to him, because I did get my birthday thread and I was very flattered. If I remember correctly, it was started by the lovely beatled. Hi, beatled!

Scary thought: We're the same new [re: eraserhead]

Agreed.

I oppose birthday threads and when I got one a year or two ago, I read several wishes and thought, "Why did *that* turnip acknowledge my light in the darkness of the world??? Fuggin' moths!"

I admit the happiest feelings when Rose wished me happy birthday. But I'm willing to forego the potential future highs for the sanctity of a Coffee Shop full of assrape and wraith2's reiteration of Greenpeace propaganda. *That's* good stuff.

My birthday is next week. Forget about it, will you?

Re: Happy birthday everybody! new [re: eraserhead]

lighten up, will you two?

I can't see the problem in wishing well someone you like very much in the place where you got to know them at...it's a friendly gesture, an internet hug...it depresses me that you two are such grumpies that you spit in the face of those who want to make you feel special for a tiny portion of the day...geez I feel sad.

Consider it equal to ripping up a birthday card in the face of the person who just handed it to you because you feel like birthday cards are a waste of paper and money.

Wait til you get home to throw it away if you cant appreciate the gesture.

It's too late new [re: anisette]

You make it sound like I'm pure evil. Weren't you around when I blessed the board with my Mimi pictures? I'm a sweetheart! Anyway, my main problem with the birthday threads is that they often feel forced. Also, every birthday thread tends to turn into a contest of who can deliver the funniest birthday wish, which makes the whole thing even more forced.

Another thing to consider here is those who don't get happy birthday threads dedicated to them. Feel their pain, anisette! This is the Jesus in me talking, and I think it's a good point.

I really don't think what I said is equal to ripping up a birthday card in the face of the person who just handed it to me. I did say I was very flattered and that beatled was (is) very lovely and I think I thanked all the people who wished me a happy birthday from the bottom of my heart. I just think that, now that I've had my birthday thread, we should stop.

But there's no need for me to try to convince you anisette. This has been settled already. Mr. TW has expressed his point of view on this issue, so it's just a matter of time before all the birthday threads are locked and a warning sign is put up under IMPORTANT: saying birthday thread starters will be banned.

Re: A matter of opinion. new [re: eraserhead]

Also, every birthday thread tends to turn into a contest of who can deliver the funniest birthday wish, which makes the whole thing even more forced.
-----------------------------------------------

You said this. This is your opinion. Meaning you feel forced. I don't know how many others you may think you speak for when you say this, but I, for one, never feel forced to give someone a happy birthday greeting in public, and even less so on the internet. If you are the one feeling forced, perhaps YOU should avoid birthday threads altogether, instead of the whole of teenagewildlife.com who may feel utterly differently. So far you and p2c are the only people that have problems with it.

-----------------------------------------------
Another thing to consider here is those who don't get happy birthday threads dedicated to them. Feel their pain, annisette!
-----------------------------------------------

Now now, I also disagree with that point. I don't know anyone that has been utterly disappointed that they had no birthday thread. These blessed threads only go to the most popular of posters, and popularity is definately not something everyone can acheive. Popularity is also a relative term I might add, to somewhat contradict myself.
I have never in my existance at TW gotten a birthday thread dedicated to me.. This may be because TW always malfunctions and never puts the day of my birthday down on the mainpage, but hey - maybe not. And I am okay with this.
So again, maybe this is just you.

Lastly, I just want to say that this was by no means an attack on your person, I just wanted to lay down my points as well,. -- star

Re: Happy birthday everybody! new [re: anisette]

If you really want to wish someone a happy birthday why not use the perfectly good function called Private Message.
I would feel a personal message was much more heart felt than a quick reply to a thread.
Or why not send some one an e-card instead - if they really are your friend surely that's worth the effort
or, stop me if I'm going to radical, but if you really know them and they are worth wishing happy birthday, why not post a card to them?
If creating happy birthday threads are 'internet hugs' etc why doesn't everyone get a happy birthday thread dedicted to them?
They are elitist - full stop - only certain posters revieve them - what is 'friendly' and 'loving' about that?

(and yes I have never had one - but I wouldn't, I would rather get birthday greetings from my family and true friends than strangers who I have never met and don't know very well. You are not my friends - I mean how can I compare you to my real friends?)

Though we have never talked, nigelp, I consider you one of my best friends and wish you a very happy birthday, even though today is not it.

Wanna come inside and meet the missus?
