I think the polls must have an expiration date fixed by the posters.
What do you think about this matter?

I second that.

No man is an island, entire of itself. Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were.

Not that I'm against it, but why? I'm sure there's a reason you suggest it, Claude, but I don't really get why its a problem.

But don't take those pills your boyfriend gave you, you're too wonderful to die.

A poll can't exist eternally!
It must have an end.

Makes sense to me. Polls would probably get more votes too as people would rush to get theirs in.

speaking of polls... new [re: Claude]

I just put one up a few minutes ago. But I agree, the poll should have an expiration date set by the poster. Yes, people may search for the thread again, but if they have to search for it, then any polls in the thread should be locked because it's an old thread already; almost archived. So, long ramble short, set an expiration date.

Oh twaddle. Absolutely no reason to rob a fellow of his voice just because you have problems with open-endedness.

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.

Re: Cabbages!!! new [re: twister]

I think Claude wanted to be able to determine a winner in his best Bowie album polls...it's a bit difficult to say which one got more votes, Outside or Diamond Dogs when they were pretty even and there's no way to properly end the poll.

It's arguable, of course, whether or not it's a good idea in such a poll to even try to determine one winner. Personally I quite like the fact that the polls are open and can be voted in later on, if the thread happens to be dug up from oblivion.

Re: Polls new [re: Claude]

I disagree, how many times has somebody started a poll in the NV&Q forum only to be told by someone that this has been done several times already? The only way to avoid this fate is to re-juvenate an old poll.

If your rule werew to be accepted people should then have the right to start any new poll, even if done before, so that they can get the opportunity to express their views.

This might get annoying and use up extra bandwidth unnecessarily, so allowing the rejuvenation of older polls is the least worst option.
