I Have A Complaint

I have a complaint about the Check spelling feature. Does anyone here use it? Why? It doesn't work! All it does is it tells you this word is misspelled. The misspelled word will appear in red. (Something tells me I misspell "misspelled", and "misspell".) Yeah, and how exactly does that help you? What you want is to know how to spell the damn word. You don't want to know how to misspell the word.

The message you get from the TW Check spelling feature is that you're a loser who can't spell. That's not what you asked for. The TW Check spelling feature should offer you some help, not insult you.

I agree. If you try to correct the spelling and it's wrong you just have to go back and try again, and again,, and again until the red disappears- I can't tell you how many times I've misspelled Warszawa. <<< Hope that's correct - OOPS it ain't correct according to spell check.

Litteraci new [re: eraserhead]

Corrective spell check is a crutch; a tool for the weak minded. (Not unlike organized religion.) The TW spell check is cruel but, if nothing else, it inspires us to be better people. It sends the message that poor spelling is unacceptable. If you don't want to be incessantly confronted by those blazing red letters, then you should learn to spell!

Spell check knows you have a problem but it knows that the solution is not to help you hide it. Spell check wants you to solve your own problems. Spell check cares.

Word new [re: eraserhead]

If one is really that concerned about spelling issues, another option would be to type out the post in Word (or other word processing program of your choice that catches potential errors) and copy and paste from there. But that seems like too much effort.

Re: I Have A Complaint new [re: kingsteved]

I think Warszawa is spelled Warszawa. Er, in English anyway. In Finnish for example it is simply Varsova.
The reason that the word shows up red in spellcheck is that the program's vocabulary doesn't include the word and it thinks it doesn't exist.

At least I can spell UFO new [re: white rabbit]

Well, when you put it that way.
In 1995, this woman, a Norwegian rockstar, appeared on Swedish television to talk about her close encounters with ETs. She had written a book about her experiences, called Du er jeg (that's the Norwegian title, translated into English, it would read: "I am you") and she was in Sweden to promote it. Anyway, she said there's this law in the universe, this universe, a universal law, or rule, that says you can't force anyone, you can't force ideas on others. It's not okay to do that. And it is against this law to interfere with other people's business. You can't force someone to do something against their own will. The aliens live by this law, she said. And it is this law that prevents them from helping us, the Earth, in times of crisis. This is why they can't land on the White House lawn. They can only help us help ourselves, she said. I was reminded of this Norwegian UFO lady when you said "Spell check wants you to solve your own problems."

I also want to take this oppurtunity to thank white rabbit for introducing me to dictionary.com. It works like magic. If you're not sure how to spell a word, say the word "dissappointed" which I always misspell, and probably just misspelled again, you can just type in any crazy attempt at spelling it, and dictionary.com will answer like this:

No entry found for dissappointed.
Did you mean disappointed?

Suggestions:
disappointed
diss appointed
diss-appointed
disapointed

ethnocentricism new [re: eraserhead]

I realize today that my logic was flawed and this idea wouldn’t work for non-native English speakers using word processing programs in other countries as every word written in English would probably show up as misspelled.

In that case then, keep using dictionary.com.

off topic: energy, prayers, angels... new [re: eraserhead]

I read a book a week ago and it was mentioned. It was a book written by a spirit, incorporated in a medium woman (mediun= basically, people who have powers to communicate with spirits).
Anyway, the spirit was talking about prayers and guardian angels. He said that a lot of people pray for something, and if the wish is not accomplished, the person usually blames god, the angels etc. Now it comes: guardian angels canīt change another personīs decisions. They can inspire others, but canīt actually think for another person or change their thoughts and wills; itīs acctually against the universe law.
So it doesnīt work to pray "please, make John kiss me tomorrow", because John will do what he wants to do. No force of the universe can interfere. And so on. Interesting you saw this theory there in Sweden too, and yet related to UFOs (I associate aliens and spirits).

But when a person say a prayer "from the bottom of their heart", the good or positive forces of the universe surround the person and elevate itīs energy, and thatīs why the person always feel better after praying (and it really happens to me, no matter how depressed I am when I pray, just after I feel a great peace ).
