Gods, no-one wanted to read all that. Oh well. I finished my thesis, so I'm free to ramble!

Nuns on the run new [re: Starlite]

I guess now that I'm a stardust savant, I have some solid claim to full membership.

It’s interesting you should refer to your title, since several people on this thread have downplayed the notion that posters inherently have a claim to power that comes with their ‘rank’. I think it tends to be something that largely goes unspoken, though Starlite is clearly part of a fascist clique that demotes the opinions of less regular posters, even though they may have frequented the boards more often than herself. Personally I’m not keen on the ‘titles system’ – indeed I think it was BFP who argued for its removal quite a while ago – because it promotes asinine comments like, uh, this, and encourages chatty, one-line posts to reach the elusive 5,000 post goal in quicker time. I mean, there are even some posters who will engage in humourless duals with diamondogz74 which they secretly hope will go on forever so to rack up shitloads of posts in no time at all!

What many Stardust Savants fail to recognise in criticising newbies is that they, themselves, are failing to produce posts of a consistent quality that are enlightening and entertaining to read. When they eventually reach the state of disillusionment and cynicism, they believe that their status of a ‘good’ poster is assured no matter what they do, and will pass off any old shit in the belief that it’s interesting to the similarly crestfallen members in their clique (who, in all likelihood will never read it because they’re now experimenting in cybersex with prepubescents picked up from a Busted site). If newbies were to simply recognise that most of the old guard are struggling, dissatisfied dinosaurs who are but a shadow of their former selves, then they’d have plenty of ammunition to hurl back at them. Simply mention to Monkeyboy that his posts are washed up, mechanical rebuttals with jokes he’s recycled several hundred times already (SweetchildGNR, you’re entitled to be brutally honest ) and you’re bound to piss him off no end.

We’d hate to prattle on about this subject since there are far better things we could be doing than typing these highly informative, well-researched musings – in fact, I’ve been intending to paint the fence outside for several months already – but Starlite is completely wrong when she says that newbies can identify cliques after a few weeks, not least because several posters disappear for months at a time and some (conniving little shits that they are) even post sarcastic messages to throw other people into confusion and to stir trouble between others! Needless to say, Starlite is one of those struggling posters/trouble-makers, though she’s obviously correct when she says that I’m an excellent poster.

You fucking jackass! Don't let that secret out so quickly! It takes years and months of frequent posting for people to discover that, but here you go just letting it all out.

What about the people who had to sit and put up with years of my recycled insults before they discovered that? How fair is this to them?

And I'm not repetitive. All of my jokes are highly original. Which is why you should vote for me as President again in 2004. Oh, yeah retards are funny and here's a kitten:

I'm sold, Monkeyboy for TW President.

This remark might have a hint of irony in it, or it may not.

Monkeyboy for TW Dictator.

I'll be appearing LIVE in London May 14th. Sure, it's a David Bowie show but you're all coming to see me. More importantly, you're coming to see me in my awesome new pants.

I'm still being serious [re: White Prism]

I don't care if you are not, darling White Prism, but I'll play the straight man (ha ha), and clarify that I tossed the "stardust savant" card out there as a self-conscious nod to the ranking system that does, whether merited or not, exist.

Of course volume doesn't mean quality--ddz74 is a "savant" too, but no-one considers him to be a top poster. And I was going to mention you as an example of a good poster with a lower post count, but now I obviously won't.

I also don't get how being sarcastic could confuse anyone other than TJ.

And finally, you are a Socratic asshole.

Maybe if I write this now, while drunk, you'll all understand.

Actually, he's an Acolyte now. It won't be long before he has his own title, though hopefully the moderators will give him something befitting his status. I'm thinking something along the lines of "now with 10% fewer fleas". There's probably a thread there.

It is quite easy to do, although it depends on the poster and the context. Or were you being sarcastic?
