What many Stardust Savants fail to recognise in criticising newbies is that they, themselves, are failing to produce posts of a consistent quality that are enlightening and entertaining to read.

Are you insinuating by this that the friggin "Electric Tomatoes" (which I named back in the golden years before Evan deserted us in search of bluer pastures) ARE producing entertaining and enlightening posts? I think not.

Sacred cows (part 2) new [re: SoulLoveChild]

SLC, I don’t believe you’re considering my post seriously enough. I was not arguing that Electric Tomatoes were any better or worse than Stardust Savants, only that the ‘title system’ imposes an artificial distinction which unfairly makes posters of a certain rank synonymous with a certain quality of posting. For your information, there are a number of Electric Tomatoes who make insightful or humorous contributions to the board:

Soho_beatnik
Dan Dare
Guilt_puppy
Grey_Nihilist
Real_Thing
Nature_boy
Yours Truly

Now, there are probably two or three times as many Stardust Savants who are equally entertaining, but it’s worth remembering that the criteria for Savant-hood is somewhere between 1,600-2,500 posts; three times the 300 post span of an Electric Tomato. Similarly, just as there is the odd Savant-or-above who you’ll consider an annoying pest, the same can be said for Tomatoes: e.g. Frank Solo, whose ‘nonsense threads’ attracted dozens of worthless replies; and Beltene, whose recent repetitious threads about the female anatomy were (quite rightly) deleted by the mods.

Although I wasn’t aware of this until your last reply, I’m alarmed by your participation in devising ranking system. Surely you knew when you came up with your suggestion that it would enforce a caste system and cause much needless heartache for posters on either side of the spectrum. The only reason why anyone would want to participate in such a scheme is to empower themselves through posting poorly and regularly, so they could rest on the laurels of their Savant title, and get away with not putting in the effort to create worthwhile posts. What you have created in fact is not only a form of insidious elitism, but a kind of ‘posting fascism’ which promotes wilful discrimination against posters of a ‘lesser rank’.

I believe that the only way to rectify the problem is that all Savants should be stripped of their titles and restart their posting careers as Absolute Beginners.

White Prism, obviously I'm not taking this seriously enough, or some is taking it all way too seriously

Having been here a while, I have never thought of the ranking system in regard to the quality of posts. That Alexandah dick very quickly went up the ranks with absolutely nothing decent to say to anybody. No quality there, just stupidity. One of the best quality posters that still comes to mind (Alice-Falls) is possibly only just an electric tomato. Quality - not quantity all the way.

Can I please point out that I did not take part in setting up any ranking system.... the ranking system was already in place, but in the early days a few of us came up with Bowie-related names to make it fun.

This is not the only MB I participate in with titles for number of posts.... but it IS the only MB where it is dissected and discussed and dissed to death

I prefer quality over quantity... if only the same could be said of DD74.

That's okay. I was just making sure. We seem to agree on the main points; I just wanted to point out that the argument 'Stardust Savants are better' or even 'generally better' isn't necessarily true. Similarly, everyone, regardless of rank, should be subject to criticism. Though I admit I remain just a bit curious over exactly how the title system influences certain peoples' posting style.

Re: White noise supremacists [re: White Prism]

Where and when did anyone say that Stardust Savants were by their nature better? Gods, ddz is an acolyte.

I think everyone knows that in the end, qulaity is far more important than quantity. Especially with multiple-replies. There, quantity is a major drawback.

Maybe if I write this now, while drunk, you'll all understand.

No, but ddz is not typical of an acolyte's style of posting. I made it perfectly clear I was talking in general terms.
