Doesn't everyone on here have a thread or two that have a special place in your heart
All the "X" threads really. Since the man behind the skimask hasn't been very active lately, i'm forced to search the meaning of life from his past works.

Well, I've always suspected there's something wrong with the forum database on the provider's side. I'm not an expert in that either, so I don't know if there's any way to fix things.
The best and at the same time probably most difficult option would be to change the forum script and provider entirely. We'd have to start from scratch, but it would be worth it. This one, for example, is a free forum software package that seems to work well. You can see an example of it in use here.

I can already see the horde of trolls adopting well known screennames and raising havoc!

Putting Coffee Shop in Auto Expire.
This is such a stupid idea. There must be hundreds of threads that catalogue the development of relationships, arguments, viewpoints... the very history of TW. The idea of automatically trashing these after a hundred quiet days is absurd. I'm sure all you pseudo-postmodernists with your Derrida-this and your Baudrillard-that think that history has come to an end, but for those of us who realise that we are nothing where we are without where we came from, the idea of allowing our thoughts and ideas be banished to digital oblivion is downright offensive.
Sure most of what's written here is inconsequential and, to be honest, borderline illiterate, but for every few dozen mongols we have a top notch poster who makes us laugh, cry, think...
I suggest that this request be treated with the disdain it deserves and that Sysiyo be driven naked through the streets as a penance for even thinking it. Because, let's be honest, he'd enjoy it, and I'm not a vindictive sort.

Deleted, unfortunately.
So what of these glorious archives we keep hearing about? Are they just sitting around on someone's hard drive or are they, too, lost forever?

You will find that most Bowie fans who are interested in Bowie-related topics (the really interesting stuff, like what Bowie ate for breakfast today and Claude's latest close-ups on Bowie's crotch) have already found other sites/news forums because TW has not been updated for so long.
I come here for Bowie news, and discussion about Bowie. If the purpose of these boards is not discussion about Bowie, then we might as well shut down the entire place.
And as an additional point, I am also a member of BowieAudio, and I occasionally check news in Bnet and Bassman. However, I find TW a much more pleasant place to get Bowie news and discuss Bowie. Even with all the quarrels here, this place still has a better atmosphere than other boards.

I would like to point out that I'm studying to be accepted to the History faculty of the Helsinki University. And like I said, the threads that are considered historically important could be saved. All you need to do is request that.
Don't give us people here too much credit, dude.

If I've understood correctly, the threads culled by Evan in the great archiving were truly archived, but any threads deleted later on (by the autodelete in Artiste or by the mods elsewhere) are simply deleted with no chance or retrieving them.

I oppose the idea. Like it or not, the Coffee Shop is the centre of these boards. Its culture has already been compromised to a certain extent by the ban on anons, and this would compromise it further. The history of Bowie may be on the more Bowie-centric boards, but the history of TW is recorded primarily in the Coffee Shop.

Sounds good to me. I personally enjoy the coffee shop more than any area here, but I have rarely come across anything that would be worth saving for future generations.
