Do you use TW as a reference site?
|
|
|
Often I see questions posted which could actually be found in places on this very site. However, since there have been no updates in so long, much of the reference stuff have become outdated and better picture galleries, news updates, and tour information can be found on other sites. As has been said, the forums are basically the only thing keeping the site going.
So, do you ever use the reference materials, or do you just come to post?

You mean this site isn't just a messageboard?

Yes, I use it to look up some details on singles and albums as the need arises, or old tour dates.
That said, I'd agree there are better reference sites, such as Bassman's. This site was always primarily about interactivity - now it's almost exclusively so.

According to Gail, Bowie and the band members use Teenage Wildlife to get song lyrics.
Garson also said that the site was very good but was sorry to hear that Evan hasn't been well.

The difference with Bassman being that it's more to the hardcore collector. TW as a database of Bowie stuff works beautifully because all things have been ordered very simply. Singles are listed on a single page, regardless of different 7", 12", CD or DVD versions. Ditto for albums. For a 'casual' fan TW is much better and easier to use. Or would be, if it were updated.

Hope they are not desperate for the "Reality" words. Any chance to have them included in the indeed very good lyrics section soon?

It's ok, if it is anything like hours, he won't be singing them next time around anyway.
It is really quite cool, that he uses this site to get his own lyrics though.

I just did. In fact, I had to check some facts for a post on these boards.

The subject of TW not being updated is too boring now. Most if not all one needs to know about Bowie is pretty much posted on the fora right away, & If finding fresh news is merely a couple of fucking clicks on a mouse, where's the use in pissing & moaning?
I suppose TW is fundamentally a message board, but it's the best.

I mainly just post these days but it was very useful when I was starting out on Bowie - it's rare I use the references but I do play the "Guess the Quote" game often.
