Hey Adam...

.....WTF is going on in this forum? That “Cut the crap, fuckers!” thread appeared here a while back and indicates that the most recent message is 07/05/04 09:55 PM (Sydney/Melbourne time), but if you look at the last message inside, its timestamp is 01/30/02 12:24 PM. And yet it doesn’t seem to be locked in-place. Why is this so?
Could a message have been created a week ago and then deleted? But wouldn't it still appear as a blank?

Yes, I believe that was probably the case in that thread.

As long as no one else has replied directly to the new post in question, it is possible to delete it entirely without it appearing as blank. Mind you, any methods of 'bumping' or 'silent bumping' are ultimately fairly lousy things to do. I wouldn't be surprised if - in that thread - someone tested their avatar and then deleted it afterward.

I thought that might be it. I suppose that counts as some kind of a bug? It's reporting that a post is there, when in fact it isn't. I suspect Evan couldn't be bothered to de-bug that one, however.

I think it is a good feature to have that posts can be deleted completely. Useful with double replies and such, if you note them in time.

A while ago, on the Smacking thread, I responded to a Strawman post that then disappeared from the thread completely, leaving not even a blank. Perhaps Strawman deleted it before I actually confirmed my reply. Otherwise, there may be a bug in the mechanism.

Maybe Strawman gave this post to the CIA as a Weapon Of Mass Destruction.

I brought back the thread in question because It's a truly entertaining read. The post I brought it back with wasn't adequate so I deleted it.
