Problems with popups
|
|
|
Whenever I visit this website I get some of the popups on my computer screen. They are for date sites and medication most of the time. Also they are for places to shop for the toys. I think this is a new way for you to make money for the site because it did not happen before but I do not like it. It is very frustrating. Please let the owner of the site know that I find it distractive.
This post has been blessed by me.

I would check your pc for adware and spyware if I was you, I have no problems with pop ups when I visit this site. Also you ought to use a pop uo blocker, there is one incotporated into service pack two for windows xp, or you could install the google toolbar which has a good pop up blocker as well.

Indeed, I have never had a single pop-up advert from TW. Which is a blessed state, of course.

Once again, I recommend Mozilla and Adblock. That's how you get rid of all the ads on this site. And all the other sites as well.

Bet you never thought, as you were going through School etc, that you would end up being an advisor to the Pope did you Kati?
Have you upgraded to Firefox, the latest version of Mozilla? I have but with this site, it always goes to the first page of a thread rather than the first new post, and on some other sites it doesn't change the colour of a thread to show you have looked at it, both minor but annoying habits.

Of course! But I haven't noticed that problem until actually a few days ago, and I've had the Firefox for much longer now, so, I'd say it's just this site again.

Regarding firefox, yet again, when I click on an embedded link on TW (and other places probably) Firefox opens another window, and not a new tab, is there a way of changing this?

Go to Tools > Options > Advanced. If I understood correctly (which is uncertain, I use multiple windows myself) you should be able to set it from there. If not, you can always right click and choose 'open link in new tab'.
Also, I've noticed that when I to a thread from the forum index it takes me to the first new post, but when I use the next/previous buttons to navigate between threads it takes me to the first post.

That happens to me at least 50% of the time I load a page. And that's very frustrating after sitting here trying to load the page in the first place. Without a doubt this is the slowest loading site on the internet. Really pisses me off.

TW must be significantly slower on some people's computers more than others. I actually find Bowie Audio painfully slow in comparison to TW.

I've found TW to have gotten much, much slower over the past month or so. It used to load like a dream, but these days the site is often very slow. But not always, which is odd.
And I agree BowieAudio loads very slowly (and I find the current version very hard to navigate).

It's fine Kati put it down to my warped British sense of humour and without being told off for spoiling this thread my idea was to irritate you in a nice way with yet another silly popup
Yes popups are very annoying I have an AOL popup blocker at the moment! only trouble is everytime it blocks a popup the noise is an annoying loud click
So is it possible to have more than one popup blocker? only I was told that you must run only one anti-virus programe as it messes the other one up.

I would really recommend changing your browser to Mozilla Firefox if you want to get rid of pop-ups. You'll get a browser that's superior to both Internet Explorer and Netscape that automatically blocks pop-ups without any additional sound effects.

Thank you Sys, so would that mean I have to disable my AOL popup blocker first? and is the Mosilla Firefox a free installation?
I do still have irritating things not popups as such but banners slide across my screen, would this Firefox irradicate them also?

You should be able to change a setting to stop the popping. I know you can with the google pop up stopper.
There would be no need to disable the aol pop up stopper as I would imagine it is IE6 specific.

You can get it right here. There are probably some instructions for installation...

For that you need Adblock, which is quite handy when you learn to use it. But don't get carried away with it. I did, and managed to block, for example, pictures from Internet Movie Database I managed to get them back, though.

There's a virus going on currently that not only fucks up your PC but also eats your soul. It's like a worm that crawls into your box and everytime you search for something(kitty porn and other pope stuff), it generates those evil pop ups and if you stare at them for more than 1 second, you lose your soul.
The worm feeds upon human souls. The CIA, FBI, NASA, NATO, YMCA and other organizations are working together to solve the problem so have no fear, random user.
But just so you know, ya know.

Thanks very much Alan, I've also noticed that on some sites I've had to allow popups for the site too work properly is this common place?

Indeed. If only someone would point out what I think the obvious joke was -- that most popup-generating spyware comes from downloading pornography -- then this thread might be put out of its misery.

If you are a windows user those pop ups may well come from through a whole in the system itself. There is something called windows news service (if I remember the name correctly) and that used to bug me for quite a while whenever I came round here. You can simply switch it off via the system manager and things are fine.
