users who steal other's identities
|
|
|
Recently, a dumbfuck has registered the username "planocraft" and has begun to answer posts in which he poses as pianocraft, answering questions as pianocraft.
I ask the mods to put a stop to this. This is identity theft.

Okay, as long as everyone can spot the difference. It is well known that pianocraft had trouble logging in. I don't want anyone to think that "planocraft" is the new username for pianocraft.
Already, wraith2 has addressed this new imposter as "craft?" and the new asshole has encouraged this identity theft.
I'm sorry that the mods can't step in and stop this. Stealing another's identity is not the same thing as freedom of speech.

Here comes my moment of glory: You can also try PMing Adam or ohramona.

Thank you for the compliment Monkeyboy
Im sure Adam has much work to do the being the administrator and I really can't remember the last time I saw ohramona on here? so the obvious solution in a helpful way was for Sys or EJ to be contacted and hopefully get pianocrafts problem fixed.
Unless you know a better way?

It's not identity theft. Identity theft would be someone guessing pionacraft's pass, and posting AS him.
This is just carefully spelled screenames, pretending to be someone...

I disagree with that. As pianocraft, I had trouble logging in, and members suggested that I create another username. When planocraft made its appearance, members here thought it was still me, with a similar username, and this new imposter facilitated this deception.

I think that is the crux of his objection, the interloper did such a good job, it really was an accurate impression of Pianocraft.

Perhaps not really long as such, but if you compare these three to the planocraft thread I think you'll see the difference:

I don't think the imposter has "given an accurate impression" of pianocraft's posts, considering the examples given.

Here’s something, maybe TWers can guess who I am, or rather of whom I’m doing an impression, just to see how easy it is to confuse other users, by mimicking a simple trait of one of our regular posters, and perhaps in the course of which disclosing my true identity, by a certain grammatical irregularity, which as you may have guessed is an excessive use of commas when one might have hoped I would have shut my cake hole many eons ago. If this is not obvious enough, I hope that I might help with a further clue, and that is something I read in one of the leading cannibal weeklies, which ran along the lines of that as stereotypes have long hinted, over 25% of the most warped, sick, depraved cannibals have upon their upper lip a tuft of hair so unsightly that even fellow cannibals suffer bouts of violent vomiting and hysterical laughter at its infiltration into their eye line.
Honestly pianocraft, sometimes I think you've never met a real junkie;the things you say about Bowie in his cocaine era, are hilarious ~Cucumber

Identity theft really only works if the person imitating you does such a good job that they appear indistinguishable from you. In which case, which of the two of you has really lost their identity?

Not nesercelery munchkins. Supposing the person who is imitating themselves is purpoesly doing a bad impersonation on purpose? If so, why would they do that? I hear your the King of TW and the man with an answer to everthing.

So I came across a bit of interesting information at a lecture yesterday - lord knows it happens very rarely - that should put the situation in it's proper perspective: Apparantly online identity theft is now considered to be a real threat to a persons mental equilibrium by leading psychiatrists. There has been several cases where people have spun into deep depression because of it, stating a feeling of violation similar to rape or mugging.
