Re: Today's Modest Proposal new [re: Monkeyboy]

I thought I'd keep clear of it all this time. When all this last cropped up - in Syisyo's 'I Am Become Death' thread - I was one of those who called, in no uncertain terms, for the banning of Anthony. I was sceptical that a temporary ban would be effective, and I was pretty disappointed that it wasn't a permanent one at the time.

Once ddz's ban had passed, though, he seemed to genuinely take on board a lot of the constructive criticisms that had been directed at him: the massive, multiple posting disappeared, as did the 'Claude-esque' single-smiley posts and suchlike; even the highly questionable syntax began to improve.

Then, slowly but inarguably, the worse aspects of his posting began to reappear. Suddenly, 'I agree', 'NO! you are wrong' and 'what's that?' became signature posts again, and a level of dogz-based inanity crept back into the major discussion forums. More worryingly, the ubiquity for which he was so roundly criticised - leading to the '7 post probation' period - started to come back, to the extent where it's difficult to find a thread that doesn't have some form of contribution - greater or lesser - from the individual who, were he a cricketer and his daily posts an average run rate, would have Glenn McGrath crapping himself.

Anthony is never going to be a White Prism, a Marquis, a Starlite or, indeed, any of the other myriad 'great' posters capable of spinning out fantastic, interesting, funny and well-written posts on a whim. Nor, for that matter, am I or the majority of other posters here. But everybody is capable of a basic level of literate and coherent discussion. Antz has shown he's capable of this from time-to-time on the board, and more regularly in PMs. Would it be so unreasonable simply to demand the sort of quality-filtering that Pablo-Picasso writes of? And, if no improvement is forthcoming, enforcing another 7-posts per day quotient? At least that way ddz would be forced to take more care over the posts he had, with the offshoot being that if no improvement were registered, there would be a limit on the amount of nonsensical-drivel filling the boards.

I don't think Antz really intends to force his own opinions on every post, and every poster on TW. But sometimes the enthusiasm to reply to everything gets a bit too much to handle. Every poster's capable of self-improvement; perhaps it's time just to really think about making a reply before hitting that 'submit post' button.

later,
Chris...

You're a bunch of boring old faggots who have nothing better to do but pick on someone's syntax. I like dogz, he adds a certain flavour to the boards.

I like him even more now.

Re: Banning Ddgz again new [re: Monkeyboy]

I'm just curious, to all of those truly upset with ddz over his posting techniques, as to why this thread exists. it seems to break the rules you set for ddz. couldn't this too be addressed by PM?

i understand that you are upset with ddz over the volume of his posts, but there is still some sharp level of irony in this thread.

also, i would not want any of you to leave this board. pardon my sapiness, but like Beltene inferred, we all add something to the board. ddz is the retarded uncle. Beltene is the creepy guy with a cane that touches little boys. monkeyboy is an angry teenager that shops at HotTopic. see? just like your home town. i'd say it's the love/hate duality that keeps things interesting around here.

but at the same time, if one member drives off several members - that person's roll in the 'community' needs to be examined. as you can see, i've read up on this topic more and i'm starting to understand the entire situation. is there a way to limit the number of posts a certain member makes per day? it could be a reasonable method to encourage quality of posts.

oh, and thanks for the signature Pablo/Marquis.

I think it is the nature of the questions rather than the fact that questions itself. - Pablo (thanks to Marquis for pointing that out)

Yeah, i know. I think that drives the character home, actually.

But why? I'd understand if this was some incredibly popular community with 50 new members registering every day but it ain't. We're a handful of snobs thriving on ancient scripts.

Re: Banning Ddgz again new [re: Beltene]

I think it just could be a nice middle ground for those that find ddz offensive, that's all. Hell if i know if it can even be done.

i looked at Sys's I am Become Death thread to find that it is possible to throttle number of posts. thanks for the link, humbert. i would also like to note a large difference in character from that ddz to this ddz.

Awreetus-Awrightus new [re: GreatApe]

I'll be honest here, I find Ddgz's posts genuinely annoying. The reason I say 'no' to the banning is because he has become an aquaintance of mine. Anthony is a wonderful man and a great friend however off-putting his posting style may be.

I have been banned from a message board once before, and that was for posing as a Nazi, attempting to take over the forum via election, as well as making a few lewd comments about shin-digging with the administrator's mother. Ddgz is harmless and does not deserve to be banned again. If a member is too immature to put up with another human being, then by all means let them leave.

Seig heil, und auf wiedersehen!

Seconded, though I'd add old bitches to the faggots for balance.

This entire discussion looks an awful lot like some bizarre online high school english class a la Rock 'n Roll High School. Monkeyboy is Ms. Togar and Marquis and schizophrenic are those two creeps who were her henchmen. Tony being Riff Randall for his nonconformist ways.

I work as a writer and editor from time to time, so bad grammar and misspellings drives me nuts. However, after years of reading telegraphic emails and posts I deal. The rest of the so-called infractions are trivial and really make me think there are a few people around here who are taking this place far too seriously. (I am not the pot calling the kettle black, because I have gotten caught in that trap before as well. I'm just glad the anons are gone.)

Banning should be reserved for only the nastiest posters (e.g. flooders, true porn smut, racist bile...)

It is my opinion and I am unanimous in this, because it is my opinion, which is, in fact, mine.

Off the fence [re: blacktropic84]

I don't think we should ban DD74. Heck yes, the guy is often more irritating than David Dickinson and he gives the British education system a bad name with his frequently awful grammar, but at the end of the day I just can't bring myself to do it. Partly it's because it would be like taking a enthusiastic puppy outside and wringing it's neck just because it did a poo on the carpet but mostly it's because I don't believe in banning people from a message board unless they have done something really heinous (like starting a “I love Neil Diamond” thread.) At the end of the day you just have to sit back and laugh at the sheer stubbornness of the dog.

I think people should concentrate their time on thinking up great and interesting threads rather than concentrating their bile.

"I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right."
