I agree four years is an exaggeration. I wasn't really thinking when I said four years. I was basically just repeating what Adam said. Actually, Adam was saying 4-5 years (2000-2001). Now when I give it some thought, two years sounds much more reasonable.
Yeah, I guess I'm pretty neutral, but I have to say the very thought of being the overseer of the whole election thing (if we go through with it, that is) scares me. It's not what I was put on Earth to do. Didn't SoulLoveChild say she'll be around for another month before leaving? She could do it, since she can't run. Her and Emil, perhaps? Or, maybe I should just leave her alone. She probably has more important things to do. Like packing. Emil it is then.

Maybe length of time a person has been here is not the only consideration, maybe participation should be put into the equation. Maybe limiting the vote to people who have posted over a certain amount of votes would be a fairer system, this would weed out the alter-egos who would post sparingly and would still enable a lot of the current regular voters a chance to have a say in how their board is run. If we went with a time limited voting system the majority of the current posters would have no say in the election or a chance to be elected.
Just a thought?

But if I'm not mistaken, you thought that Shelle was an alter ego of power2charm, which was . . . unusual.
But that was only a few weeks after I registered. And there were veteran posters who thought the same for a while, so maybe it was not such a bad guess for a newbie.

Yes, we could reduce it to one or two years.....or perhaps a certain number of posts (or a combination of the two).
I could register an account for which a second person would have access. People would submit votes to this account and the second person would help calculate and double check for error. As dogz said, I can weed out the alters fairly easily.

I think it's important to first figure out just what a moderator does and does not do. Are they simply front-line guards that act on whatever existing orders are there? Or are they decision-makers who can delete and ban at will? My guess is somewhere in-between. But before we decide who the moderators are, I think we need to know what they are.
Also, if we had more moderators (but not necessarily more moderation), not only could the labor be shared but I think that it would be less of a big deal to consider the post as a temporary one. Nothing against any of the mods, but I think that new blood and new perspectives can always be a good thing.
Things should never be so set that they can't be constantly re-considered. Take, for example, the ebb and flow of ddgz supporters/detractors and of JamieSim's English proficiency.
Since I'm farting out random stuff anyways, why not simply let whoever is dumb enough to want to moderate have access to the moderator forum and figure out a way to try them out for a while. Maybe not have the full powers, but bring up this or that thread that they would do this or that to. If they seem to have good judgement and good ideas after some time, give them the job. There could be some hidden talent out there.

Would Jesus.H. Christ be allowed to vote?
I think He would make a great mod.

Alright, how about a 4 year minimum with the proviso that veterans can sponsor "younger" posters? This would, of course, require the approval of another veteran. That's how they keep the black people out of country clubs while allowing newer members. It works, trust me.

Any way to keep ddgz off of the voting list would be fully supported by Team Moqito. I'm not joking.
