Perhaps we need a court case every time a moderator action is taken? You know, complete disclosure of every action taken, every word muttered, every invisible thread deleted. Think about the fun! I could do a night course in law, do dress ups and then with help of the TW jury we'd really get to the bottom of this difficult case....'the handling of Remard'.

Basically, here is what I did and WHY I did it:

Stage one.....this involved deleting the one letter threads, deleting some of the doubled up pics and banning what I thought was the most offending account then being used. Basically, this was a quick action to prevent further spamming and the outbreak of reactionary arguing. Note, this is largely irrespective of the reprimand of Remard. You could call this stage some kind of disaster recovery, the introduction of preventative measures, terrorist alert, defcon 4, or something.

Now had of I known that Billy did this on a single account, it's hard to say whether I'd have enforced a ban right away. Certainly if it was a new user, I'd put it down to classic trolling and have little hesitation. When it's an older user, I'd rather give them a break, tell them where they've fucked up, etc. And in turn, Billy/Remard responded promptly and in agreeance to a PMed request......and thus giving me no hesitation to restore his access on account of that promise (and on the realisation that I had blocked all his access). As Shelle hinted, the banning of an alter is a more humble way of saying that certain shit isn't tolerated (and demonstrate that action can be enforced) but even then that only partially explains why I made the decision.

There's a bit of difference between that and simply having a few written guidelines as to what is and isn't acceptable.

However, if you can't see that it's the very absence of any such guidelines whatsoever that causes people to question every individual decision, then so be it.

I can imagine it's a tough job being a mod, so I have a certain amount of sympathy for you.

On the other hand, if it's that tough, maybe it should be rotated rather than being an appointment for life, which seems to be the current situation.

I think it's quite telling that b_ has admitted that he has tried time and time agian to annoy us. Isn't that something like Dogz admitting the same back before his trial banning.
