The decline of TW new

I know we really don't need another thread like this (especially as it'll turn into "why isn't the main site updated anymore?, please" anyway), but I'm doing it anyway, ha! ha!

I was thinking this morning it might not be a bad idea to redo the old Alphabetical Bowie Survivor thing. It's been a few years since the last one, and as Bowie has no new material coming on the pipeline, we hopefully wouldn't end yup having to redo old rounds due to new material (also the illogical scientist in me believes that if we do an alphabetical survivor, Bowie will release new material just to make things harder for us).

Then I realised there are about a dozen active users left here who would participate, making the whole thing an excercise in futilily. Looking back, I realised the activity on these boards has come down a fraction of what it was before. When I joined this place and for several years afterwards, there were about thirty threads with new replies waiting for me in Coffee Shop alone when I browsed this place in the morning. These days we're down to maybe five active threads in Coffee Shop (OK, do remember that I don't see Dogz... but then again I'm not sure if his contributions should count anyway), about ten in the entire boards.

I have to admit, there isn't very much left of the place as it once was. And there doesn't seem to be much light in the horizon, the registering system is broken (although usable, but how many potential new users can find the instructions?), Bowie isn't doing new material and of course as the main site is no longer updated it isn't exactly helping in drawing in new users.

Maybe we should consider starting a Teenage Wildlife Version 2 that would replicate most important functions of the main site, plus the message board, and just moving there.

Your moderating skills come in for a lot of criticism, so maybe you should look at yourself before trying to blame others.

As for your bozoing me? as a moderator that is wrong.

Re: The decline of TW new [re: K]

I am wondering who would have the duties for updates and news or would just be like how the News section is on the board? Im sure one of our current mods could perform this with flourish.

The revamping would be a great idea and plus more features can be added like maybe an enhanced profile page; a sort of myspace for bowie fans. Plus, added features like a sound and video section where all the Youtubes and bootlegs, etc.. could be found.

Now I can, thanks to you.

OK, I bet he wrote more dribble than just that. Thnaks for sparing me.

And Dogz, as an ansver to you stupid question, I can log out and view your posts if I wish. I usually do not, but today it for some reason crossed my mind you could have contributed something worthwhile in the News section (of course I should have realised it would be another piece directly copied from BNet News). Your comment that made my signature was so wonderfully stupid that I simply could not resist.

Yes, and if we did that, keeping the site up to date would be such an arduous task that we'd end up where in the same situation as we are now, with the admin of the site becoming sick and tired of having to do so much work and quitting.

Plus bear in mind that this was not an idea to revamp the current site, because the only one who could do that is Evan. Instead I'm suggesting that this site is left to decline and we start a new site that's built on the same principle as TW.

Re: The decline of TW new [re: K]

We don't have to have it in the hands of just one person. That would be ridiculous to give them that much duty. But as a collective, it wouldn't be so bad. Plus, we wouldn't have to update the news as much as BWW does.

For the profile pages, etc. that I was talking about, if we could have the pages set up for those contributions people could add and later be edited by a administrator so as to have some kind of workablity and coherence for referencing, and even aesthetic.

It could very well work and we have enough talent in our roster (plus we would be able to add new contributing members), to set up a new site. The current look and setup of the message board is nice and should be kept but as we know that is the only redeeming feature of this site now.

I am putting out these ideas not as to do give someone some ridiculous task of putting it together by their lonesome but as a project where if we choose to put our heads together and plan out. Tossing ideas around is a good step for greater things and I suggest we do the same and later we can have a consensus for the future. I have a friend who makes websites and I'm sure others here have connections to do these things. I know K, that your plans were not to make a totally new site, but... it can be considered and implemented.

Not a bad idea, bisex yeti.

I've frequently thought about the idea of simply registering people that I think might enjoy the boards simply as something fun to do. But it's hard to get a non-Bowie fan to put in the time it takes to get accustomed to the very things that make this site so fun before they are fun.

But I think that if we move we will lose more people in the process than we actually gain. Call me a pessimist, but I see the chances of Daddy going through another Earthling period, popularity-wise, declining exponentially as he gets older.

I think the real questions we should be asking ourselves are:
- Who will be the last to give up? (Dogz)
- How much longer can we expect to sustain ourselves?
- Where (if anywhere) will we move to once this place finally caves in?

Me, I'm in this for the long haul but infighting and melodramatic bullshit is my bread and butter. That said, I refuse to be left alone with some posters.

Maybe the best thing is for Daddy to die because then he's sure to have a real upsurge in popularity - at least in the States. Let's just try to get the registration process cleaned up before then.

Does it matter?

Yeah, I think he probably shouldn't have Bozoed you on principle but I can't really blame him. I think it was either that or banning you. So be grateful, you fucking tard.

Of course the main thing is that none of us has the power to shut down this place. We can't force people to relocate to the new site, so we'll risk splitting up the place as it stands now.

To tell the truth, when I started writing the first post, I had no idea I'd end up writing the things I did. I certainly didn't plan suggesting starting a new site. In hindshight I should have made it more clearer that those were only my own ramblings without any moderatorial value.

Finally, Dogz, like I've said before... if you think I'm a bad moderator (and you have every right to think so), then take it up with Adam and request my resignation. I welcome it.
