A question for the mods

Since Dogz refuses to give a straight yes or no answer, and since I've given him ample time to give one, I have to turn to you. As you probably know, I have asked him repeatedly if he is one of the three people who threatened to sue Teenage Wildlife. You also probably know that I told him that if he didn't give a straight answer by today (PST) I would ask you.

So I have a number of questions. I'd appreciate whatever answers you can give:

- Was the user we call "Dogz" one of the three people who threatened legal action?

- If you can't answer that, could you at least tell us the cumulative total number of posts that, say, two out of the three have made?

- If Dogz did threaten to sue, I don't expect that you can give many details and can appreciate the uncomfortable position I might be putting you in. But are there any further details that you can give?

- If Dogz did threaten to sue, I'd imagine that probably every single regular user here would be pretty upset about it. In your personal opinion (as a moderator) what is the best way for people to respond? For example: if we're upset by this news would it be appropriate to call for his banning or should everyone just Bozo him?

- Of course, if you have the actual PM threatening to sue - as I think Marquis has suggested - you do realize that you are holding on to comedy gold, right?

Thanks in advance for whatever answers you can give.

Re: A question for the mods new [re: Monkeyboy]

Something about this whole thing stinks. Is Sys playing us all for fools, with his procrastinating will-I-or-won't-I-ban-Dogz thing? I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, and I don't think any of us could bust this whole Dogz protection lobby wide open. Nobody gives clear answers. Questions on the future of this site, and the options many people have to take it over and revive it, are constantly left unanswered. The Dogz issue is never discussed seriously by those in power. Sys keeps changing his mind, Ohramona is not around much, EJSunday tells us that he knows nothing about the Dogz issue and we have to ask K and Adam...

We're being left in the dark, and is seems like Sys is finding pleasure in teasing us. Meanwhile Dogz perfects his politician-mode with lies and silence. Like a man protected.

We're through the looking glass here, people. Trust no one.

Ansvers from the mod new [re: ziggfried]

I apologise for taking so long to reply, especially after my earlier, hmm, boast about this. Real life got on the way. I'll ansver Monkeyboy's questions to the best of my ability.

In reply to:

- Was the user we call "Dogz" one of the three people who threatened legal action?

Yes. Around 28th March 2006 he had sent a PM to Adam, threathening to sue Evan Torrie for the contents of this thread by Monkeyboy.

In reply to:

- If Dogz did threaten to sue, I'd imagine that probably every single regular user here would be pretty upset about it. In your personal opinion (as a moderator) what is the best way for people to respond? For example: if we're upset by this news would it be appropriate to call for his banning or should everyone just Bozo him?

Say the word and I'll ban him. I'm dead serious here.

In reply to:

- Of course, if you have the actual PM threatening to sue - as I think Marquis has suggested - you do realize that you are holding on to comedy gold, right?

To tell the truth I wasn't going to share the PM as it was originally sent to Adam. However, just today I recieved a PM from Dogz where he told me I shouldn't make the PM public, and PMs where he tries to tell me how to do my job piss me off to no end, so here's the original PM Dogz sent to Adam:

Dear Adam,

Regarding Monkeyboys obnoxious thread about me...

I do hope you realize that public humiliation is not acceptable Internet behavior, nor is harrassment acceptable.

I am seriously considering talking to my solicitor, who for £100.00 or so can write a letter to the owner of TW. That person need to silence him NOW.

Can I suggest a removal of thread please.

Regards
Anthony

The serious side of Mr. Moqito new [re: K]

In reply to:

Say the word and I'll ban him. I'm dead serious here.

Well, not that I can/should/will be the final authority on this but I do feel that I should say something.

Contrary to what I'd imagine is popular opinion (and rightfully so), I tend to be a very forgiving person. Add that to my love of a) human oddities and b) what I will, for lack of a better term, call "free speech," and you might be able to understand the sort of moral quandry I find myself in when it it comes to Dogz.

Don't get me wrong, I hate that motherfucker more than he (allegedly) loves to fuck Turkish children. I just think that if I'm going to narrow my morality down to something realistic and live-able, the least I can do is stick to it.

But I also loathe dishonesty above all things. To me, Dogz is one of the most dishonest people I can think of. His life is so much a lie that I doubt he even knows what the truth is anymore. All I can think is that if someone as thoroughly unpleasant and, mostly, dishonest as he is were in my real life environment I would do everything I could to make him leave. So in the words of my criminally under-used alter, Foghorn, "ban his ass."

I might reconsider this position if Dogz were to offer a public apology but that's mainly because - and this is no secret - there's a sick part of my personality that actually enjoys having him here.

Dude, you've just established that you think he is one of the most dishonest people you've ever encountered. Would you believe him if he apologised?

Because he will if he thinks it'd prevent him from being banned.

Remember, this is someone who on one hand makes (redundant) threads about how the site is dying, how much he loves it and that we need to do something to 'save' it, and on the other threatens legal action against the site's creator, an act that would no doubt hasten it's demise.

The apologies of someone like that mean nothing to me.

The only thing that stinks is my memory. As said before in the other thread I am sure Adam informed me about those threats of legal action as he did with the other mods. As far as I can recall I didn't take all that stuff any serious whatsoever - and I still don't.

Dogz was on a rampage and came up with typical idiocy, a behaviour which I have noticed with other folks here as well. Though one may exchange the word "idiocy" for the term "senseless aggression" in those cases.

So what do we have to deal with here? A TW member who is renowned for his utter lack of intelligence is spitting out a threat which he will never be able to persue seriously in any way, and certainly doesn't even intend to. Should we ban him for that? Or should we use this incident as an excuse to ban him for all the other nonsense he posts in abundance on TW?

A fully justified ban of dogz would be at hand if he was still considering the idea of legal action, or in reverse if he does not take back those words he sent to Adam.

The way I see it, we've got multitude of reasons to ban him:

- Aggression towards other users (including the mods)
- Blatant disregard of logic
- Blatant disregard of grammar
- Blatant disregard of privacy
- Flooding
- Attemps to influence mod decisions via private messages
- Threat to sue the site
- Being the most annoying person on the planet

With all this in mind, I have just banned the user diamondogz74.

Well the bastard has had that many lives that we should have considered calling him Catz instead of Dogz.

If he is indeed gone for good this time, then this could well be the start of something beautiful. Then again, the damage that DD74 has caused may already have gone too deep. I think we can only really justify having banned him for good, so long as TW doesn't now slide into an empty nothingness where nobody posts and we just talk about the good old days of Dogz bashing.

Indeed, I'll just leave you with something Dogz once said to me in a PM... "I try so bloody hard to keep this site alive and not sink into the realms of boredom such as BWW." Lets prove him wrong...

the threat of sueing the site is something completly different. This is not about free speech anymore. It is just consistent to ban him in order to keep harm from site and owner, just like banning monkeyboy's headline was.

I just have a problem with any mod being allowed to ban how he likes to. Isn't there any agreement among the mods needed anymore? I don't think decisions made in such an unclear way are really improving the site on long sight. So perhaps the other mods could clear that up by taking some position to get sure there is a consense about that decision.

Although not exactly what you asked, I'll say a few words here. If I remember correctly, originally we (the mods) agreed that we'd confer before banning anyone. However, since we tend to be present so sporadically it might take a long time for the others to react if one of us calls for a banning. I decided that in the case of Dogz the general consent is enough to ban him, had it been anyone else I would have conferred with the other guys.

As it happens, I just reviewed the original mods-discussion-for-banning-dogs thread from 2004, and I noticed that Adam never gave his consent (or lack thereof) for the first ban on Dogz. Just an interesting point.

Sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head . . .

What's that?

The actions of a douche bag. Specifically, treating people as though you were somehow not a) fallable, b) equal, and c) a total ass at times.

A good example of a douche bag is Jay Leno. It's not so much that he sucks, it's that he seems to think that he's awesome in the face of his suckatude.

This is all American slang which is even less solid than American English, mind you. I can't expect you to understand it without some explaination. This has nothing to do with your douche-baggery, of course.

Serious fear new [re: Monkeyboy]

Speaking of fear for our real, actual lives, now seems like a good time to publicly reveal that I once reported TJNewton to the Polish Consulate here in the US. He'd posted something about an interest in shooting up a school, and I wasn't so confident that he wasn't serious that I could just let it go. I called the consulate, told them what he'd posted and gave them all the information I had on him from his profile. I don't know if there was any follow-up, but it was interesting.

So, I don't fuck around. Anyone that has my phone number is welcome to call me in a state of emergency.

Even if Dogz doesn't come back under a new name, it's inevitable that someone else will fill the void his banning has created. It's like when the X-Men killed Apocalypse, and Cable's son turned evil and called himself Genesis, who ended up being worse than the original baddie.

Not so much at the moment, I have to stock up again soon. So what's left is a full bottle of Greek Ouzo, 3/4 of a bottle of Italian Ramazotti, just a few drops of mighty fine Italian Grappa and two bottles of French Merlot. The Spanish Brandy is gone and so is the lovely Portuguese Maciera. Seems like summer is over indeed.

I've got a bottle of Pina Colada I won in a pub quiz two years ago (I'm saving it for a special occassion like if someone I don't like comes around), A bottle of Ginger Wine, Two bottles of Mead, Three bottles of cheap vino Tinto, 8 bottles of Real Ale (something for the weekend), a six pack of Boddingtons and a random bottle of pudding wine. Oh and not forgetting a bottle of cheap Scotch Whisky.

Hmmmm, feeling rather understocked at the moment actually. If guests come around what are they gonna drink.

Well I got mine from Lindisfarne, but why not make your own?

Traditional Scottish Recipes
- Ginger Wine

Ginger wine has been a popular drink for cold winter's nights - or as an addition to whisky to make a "Whisky Mac". This recipe is adapted from the original published in Mrs Beeton's famous work and makes 4.5 litres (8 pints).

Ingredients:

4.5 litres (8 pints) water 1.4 kg (3 lb) sugar One lemon - zest and juice 1 tsp fresh yeast 110g (4 oz) raisins, stoned and chopped 40g (1½ oz) ginger, peeled and bruised 75 ml (2½ fl oz) brandy

Method:

Add the water, sugar, lemon zest and bruised ginger to a very clean saucepan. Bring to the boil, simmer for 1 hour. Remove any scum and transfer to a large bowl. When it is luke-warm, add the yeast and leave overnight.

Next day, strain the lemon juice and add to the mix along with the chopped raisins. Place everything in a suitable vessel.

Stir the wine every day for 14 days. Add the brandy. Stop the vessel down by degrees and in a few weeks it will be ready to bottle.

In reply to:

What's mead like?
