You're having a laugh...

Are you seriously telling me (as I approach the 3000 posts mark) that I have to come up with another 2000 pieces of random shite before I get a custom title? If so I demand that one of the moderators comes round to my house and operates a bar in my room so I can get hideously pissed and make loads of posts every night. It's only fair. I mean come on... you don't expect me to talk about Bowie or something like that do you? What a joke!!!

It's even older than that - 7 years ago is just when the we migrated to the new message board. I've been registered here for over 10 years, since it started taking registrations, and I visited it even before that. The site itself is a bit more than 12 years old. In reply to:

Exactly... the system is obviously flawed and needs an overhaul. Originally it probably seemed perfectly reasonable that having made 5000 posts you would have made a valid and valuable contribution to the boards and thus deserved the coveted custom title. After all it was something to aim for... something special. This of course was in the days when there was a large variety of threads and topics to contribute to, on Bowie and otherwise and also a hell of a lot of posters around starting threads. With some many people on the boards, it was nice that there existed some form of proving yourself to be in the highest echelons of TW society and not just some infrequent poster.

In practice the flaws in the systems are obvious. Who has actually made the biggest contribution, the bloke like DD74 who posts 5000 pieces of random or even mediocre shite, or the people who tend to be more selective in their posting and thus even over a stint of years may never managed to make 3000 posts? Some of the best posters in TW history have appeared on here to say that they haven't got a custom title yet so stop whinging, but I would say that they are the people who probably deserve it the most. Of course many posters who have achieved the 5000 mark totally deserve their accolade and I can perfectly understand that they would be disgruntled to imagine that some young upstart might try and scheme to undercut the system, but at the end of the day can we not at least drop the amount to 4000? At that rate by 2009 I may just have a custom title.

Plus not mentioning any names I happen to know of certain cases where people have jammily managed to get themselves customised long before hitting the 5000 mark... personally I think they totally deserved their title, but it was a bit of a blow to the rest of us who continue to sweat tears of blood for this site.

Anyway... like I said originally, if I can't have a custom title then fine, but I want some sort of booze sent to me to aid me in my posting.

Overload new [re: Persilot]

I'm not too fussed; I mean, once you start making exceptions for people that start bitching, they'll either just disappear right away (*cough*Wraith2*cough*) or you'll end up having to give everyone a custom title, thus ruining what makes it special. I've been averaging about 2-2.5 posts a day since I came back in March, so I'm looking at a 2012 or so metamorphosis into Learning to be a part of society. Bring it on.

That said, if you get anything from this thread, even if it's just a warm can of lager, I'd better get one too.

Delusional Supremacy new [re: Remade/Remodeled]

Dude, if you wanted to summon me, all you had to do was say my name three times in a thread.

Okay, I'm here...what's this one about again? Oh, right, custom titles. I think a custom title should require either 5000 posts, 3000 posts and five or more years of service to TW or 2000+ and seven years.

More importantly, I think there should be a nonbinding referendum on whether or not each potential recipient gets a title and what it should be. The mods get to make the final decisions but they can and will be influenced by the indistinct gibbering of the unwashed masses. Hopefully this will result in lots of shit talking and either Stu, Strawman or Monkeyboy leaving in a huff (only to return a week later).
