What do you think about Diamond Dogs?

I know there was just a post about Diamond Dogs specifically, but what do people think of the album as a whole (not the dogs?) It's my most recent Bowie album, and I've heard people love it or hate it. At first, i didn't like it, espcially the rather painful Rock 'n' Roll with Me. However, the "If you want it, boys..." refrain really got into my head, and I intently studied the lyrics. I view it kind of like Bowie's a futuristic pimp or something, selling out boys in this filthy, post-apocolyptic city. Am I wrong? I haven't read 1984. anyway, I find the album very confusing and interesting.
Oh, and how does one aquire a signature?

Many consider DD a brilliant album, but in my opinion it's a failure. I don't like the sound and find most (not all!) of Bowie's guitar sound terrible. It could and should have sounded much better than it does. The idea is good, but the result is dissappointing IMHO...

I liked the album when I first bought it, but after I read 1984 most of the magic was gone... Diamond Dogs is a beutiful album, but it get's dated all too soon. Nowadays when I listen to it, I no longer hear any of the songs. I love Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing -trio and Big Brother/Chant Of The Ever Circling Skeletal family... but I do not hear them anymore .

Go to Edit Profile, there Edit Basic Profile and there you can find a field where you can enter your sig. Before you do that, check out how to use markup from the FAQ.

I fnd the album very sexual and Bowie's vocals are sexual too...I often find 'rock n roll with me' out of place on the album...it just sounds too...poppy? sounds like it should have been on an earlier album...bowie wanted a whole theatrical adaptation of 1984...right? i'm sure there are many posts on that but i'm too lazy to find them for you and link you to them...it really upsets me though that bowie wasn't able to get the rights to do that show and then later someone else was allowed to make a regular play adaptation of it....i haven't read that but i've seen that script around...has anyone else read that? is it horrible? but a great album came out of what he had leftover from those 1984 workings...
I am afraid that there's much to be afraid of.

The album was thrown together with some Ziggy-like stuff (Rebel Rebel, RNR With Me, Diamond Dogs, and some 1984 opera things. In my opinion it therefore lacks some of the ALBUM feeling. And the sound is terrible. He is not a very good guitar player. It's my least favorite of his 70's albums.

Actually, oyv98, the album does feel more like an 'ALBUM' altogether than something just crammed with songs. A lot of the songs 'connect' together. Songs 1 and 2 are more like one song. 3, 4, and 5 are more like one long song. And 10 and 11...
Wel; anyways, I like the DD album.

Diamond dogs is one of his best 70's albums in my opinon, if not the best. The stuff frankly is not Ziggy like at all (except maybe for Rebel Rebel), are you forgetting 1984, and We Are the Dead (which is an absolutely amazing bowie song)? For the time the sound was superb, and it is still is. The album has an amazing feeling overall, a sort of haunting future esque, I don't know where you're going.
you sir, are an idiot, unless you give me some hard evidence otherwise.
