heathen tracks

i still feel the same as when i downloaded the album a few weeks before its release, that its one of the best and most powerful albums hes done, lyrically and vocally.
but what do you think the most powerful track is on heathen?
vocally i'd have to say 5:15 the angels have gone because he keeps it consistant throughout.
lyrically i'll have to say sunday because its spooky after the september 11th tragedy.
whats your views on heathens powerful tracks?

I think that "Heathen (the rays)" is the most spooky after 9/11, but I try and not analyze everything based on that one event, even though it was a big one. The most powerful song on the album, imo, is "Everyone Says Hi." This could be more meaningful to me since a very close friend passed away in April. I do agree though that it is one of his most moving albums. I even think "Better Future" is a pretty powerful song, given the meaning behind it.

I don't really see a connection between 11.9. and Heathen, but I naver the less think that Heathen (The Rays) is the stringest track on the album, followed by A Better Future. Slip Away is IMO probably the worst song on the album... it just misses something that the other tracks have.
I dread to think of when the wind blows

My selection for best songs on Heathen: Sunday (outstanding, most powerful for me), Slip Away, I Would Be Your Slave and Heathen (also very powerful)--however, there is not one bad song on the album. Heathen is fantastic; I am totally in love with it.

I love the album and like it even more than Scary Monsters, but unlike Scary Monsters, it does not seem to have any outstanding tracks.
But, I find A Better Future, the most catchy song and in my opinion the best single.

Sorry?!? "Sunday" + "Heathen (The Rays)" not outstanding? "Everyone say Hi" not a particularly catchy tune?
What's your outstanding tracks from "Scary Monsters"? My vote goes to the title track.

I'd say Ashes To Ashes, Fashion and my personal curiosity, Because You're Young. And it seems I have to agree with Kurious Moonlight. The songs on Heathen are generally quite good, but no track truly stands out in the same fashion as those I mentioned. (And how can it be that we allways seem to be at odds, EJ? )
I'm Ba-ack. (Did you miss me? )

All my trials, Lord, will be remembered. Everything has changed.
Sunday really does it for me. A bit too short but a powerful album opener. But what the hell, tomorrow it might be 5.15 The Angels Have Gone or Heathen (The Rays). Superb album by Mr. B!

Indeed, the song seems to end too soon. It could (should) be a few minutes longer in the end. It sort of seems that the song ends just when it's starting to get it on (quite Mike Oldfield-esque in some ways).

Very Low-ish, too.

Dunno, but I don't mind. The Ying and Yang of TW, maybe.

Nor do I. In fact you are on continuous rise on my favourite TWers list because of this (well, Buddha Of Suburbia might have something to do with that as well ).

Heathen is the first Bowie album I bought. I now have eight. I have to admit that this album is truly incredible. It is deep, moving and soulful. His voice is just so.....nice.
My standout tracks at the moment must be 5.15 (consistent and melodic), I Would Be You Slave (could have sworn Portishead walked into the room at this point! The music is beautiful) and Everyone says Hi.
All in all I am very impressed.

i don't know.... i am loving heathen today few times more than 5 days ago
and i did love it a lot by then
i still think the title track is the best bowie song (somewhat) but "i would be your slave" is nearly as incredible it sounds like a movie about rain

This was a record that took a while for me to fall in love with. But it was worth the effort!
A Better Future is my favorite at the mo, followed by ESH, and Slow Burn. ABF should have been a single - I think it would of been a huge hit, as would Slow Burn,
I know that Slow Burn was a single in some countries, does anyone have any idea how it performed? Petes guitar playing a the beggining is excellent, by the way.
