I've always wondered what this song was about... does it have anything to do with the movie (which I have never seen)? Anybody have any interpretations they think might be accurate? Or just wierd ones?
And when I get excited, my little China girl says, "Oh baby, just you shut your mouth" She says "Shhhhhhhhhhhhh" DB is sexy sexy sexy!

In 1976 Bowie was asked if he had ever been in love. He said that love was "a disease that breeds jealousy, anxiety and brute anger."
Cat People is not a pretty love song. Rather, the singer's emotions are consumed by a destructive, long lasting obsession. These are the words of a Thin White Duke, and not a happily married Bowie.
NOTES:
1. "an ageless heart that can never mend" - refers to a previous, damaging experience in love
2. "a judgement made can never bend" - is the obstinancy of obsession
3. "putting out the fire with gasoline" - is the self destuctive nature of obsession
LYRICS:
See these eyes so green I can stare for a thousand years Colder than the moon It's been so long
Feel my blood enraged It's just the fear of losing you Don't you know my name Well, you been so long
And I've been putting out fire With gasoline
See these eyes so red Red like jungle burning bright Those who feel me near Pull the blinds and change their minds It's been so long
Still this pulsing night A plague I call a heartbeat Just be still with me Ya wouldn't believe what I've been thru You've been so long Well it's been so long And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline Putting out the fire With gasoline
See these tears so blue An ageless heart that can never mend These tears can never dry A judgement made can never bend
See these eyes so green I can stare for a thousand years Just be still with me You wouldn't believe what I've been thru
You've been so long Well it's been so long And I've been putting out fire with gasoline Putting out fire with gasoline
[Been so long] [Been so long] Well, it's been so long [Been so long] I've been putting out fire [Been so long] Well, it's been so long [Been so long] I've been putting out fire [Been so long] It's been so long [Been so long] Putting out fire [Been so long]
Been so long [So long, so long] Been so long [So long, so long] Been putting out fire [Been so long, so long, so long] Been putting out fire [Been so long, so long, so long] Been so long
[Been so long, so long, so long Been so long, so long, so long] I've been putting out fire [Been so long, so long, so long] Been putting out fire [Been so long, so long, so long] Been so long [So long, so long] Been so long [So long, so long] Been so long [So long, so long]
