I recently saw the movie and didn't quite know what to think of it. Though Man Who Fell To Earth is worse, I wasn't too impressed with this one either. But that's because I didn't pay too much attention to it. Ewan is a great actor, tho.

My question is: Is this story REALLY based on David Bowie's life?

I made a thread about this crappy movie awhile ago.
But I'm not going to bother to find it.
the bottom line was, it was bad and there weren't enough sex scenes between the boys to make it watchable.
and yes, it's totally taken from bowie's life, though I think bowie had more charisma than a mop.

Hell has all the good bands anyway.

I beg to disagree with you there. TMWFTE is a great movie. Velvet Goldmine was a good attempt, but the fact that it shamelessly copies Bowie's life (and yet does not) makes the movie crash before it has even lifted off.

The real reason Velvet Goldmine is crap is because the music is awful. They could have done with copying the musical styles of the period as well as observing the dress styles a bit better.

TMWFTE is not my type of movie, as I'm sure I'm not your type of person for not liking this movie, but methinks you should better learn to accept opinions and move on.

Velvet Goldmine was slow and depressing, dark and dreary, but hey, whatever floats ya boat.

I'm the fucking champion of people having their own opinion, cheers. I meant what I said, you should assimilate more alternative cinema and maybe then you'll better appreciate this kind of film that requires work on the part of the viewer, that doesn't spoonfeed it's audience.

I personally thing Velvet Goldmine is actually a good movie, true it fuck's up David life story, makes no sense, and is garbages but is that really so bad? If its entertaining , why not love it.
