Jealousy

I've been here for many years, yet I've never ever made a poll. Why? Because I didn't think I could poll it off. ;)
Seriously, I've always thought Iggy Pop's "Jealousy" is about Bowie (maybe not the third verse, which talks about a "she", but the rest of it). It's track #4 on Iggy's 1993 album American Caesar. It goes a little something like this...
He's got a great big hit He's in a limousine When I see his face Somethin' starts to freeze
He's got money for miles His girl comes out of Vogue * When he acts like an ass He's treated like a rogue
I feel it comin' it's flushin' my face I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin' it's boilin my blood I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin' flushin' my face I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin' boilin' my blood I feel it comin' jealousy baby This isn't for the first time in my life
She comes from top cheekbones She never worried hard You could camp an army On her family's yard When I look at blue blood I want to make it mud and tear that difference down Rock an' roll is how
I feel it comin' it's breakin' my neck I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin' boilin' my blood I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin' boilin my blood I feel it comin' jealousy baby I feel it comin breakin' my neck I feel it comin' jealousy baby This isn 't for the first time in my life
* I'm pretty sure Iman has been in Vogue magazine numerous times, probably also on the cover a couple of times.
Okay, so, let's see if I can fuck up a simple Yes or No poll...
"So a few years later Thunder died broke / Sable had a baby back at her folks / Me I went straight and serious too / There wasn't much else that I could do" -Iggy Pop, "Look Away"

I've never thought about Jealousy this way, but your interpretation is very interesting. I think you convinced me
We're nothing and nothing will help us Maybe we're lying then you better not stay But we could be safer just for one day

Me too. And the "she" thing isn't such a stretch, either - Queen Bitch wasn't about a woman.
Stu Friends of the truss. You’ve been a breath filled crowd tonight. You’ve been positively fly boys. We are surely on our way, upon that superhighway of information. As far as I’m concerned, you are all number one packet sniffers.

It is interesting, but i think he is referring to a male and a female example of something he hates/is jealous of. There is not enough information in the first to suggest anyone really, and the line...
"He's got a great big hit"
If this was 1993, then it has been a while since Bowie had a "great big hit". I think it could be Iggy's version of Teenage wildlife, ie jealous and annoyed at the "its so easy" pop stars.
The third verse surely isnt Iman, she is hardly blue blooded or has a rich familly (independantly gained) coming from Somalia and all...

Jump They Say, Bowie's biggest hit since Absolute Beginners? Also, Black Tie White Noise was the first Bowie album to go number 1 since Tonight (and the last one to date).

Au contraire, Gnoome, not everyone in Somalia lives in abject poverty - they have a middle class and a ruling class too. Iman's father was a diplomat and a former ambassador and her mother was a gynaecologist. She studied economics and political science at Nairobi University in Kenya (her family fled there after a coup in Somalia - her father having been an ambassador for the outgoing government) where she was spotted by a photographer who turned her on to modelling, she went to New York, became the face of Tia Maria in the UK and by the time she started seeing Bowie was earning $700k a year as a supermodel and had homes in NY and LA. How many ambassador's daughters do you know? (I once - well, twice actually - dated a girl in London, in 79, whose dad was, or had been, the British ambassador (or at least a diplomat, I can't remember now - maybe he had something to do with UN or something like that?) in Switzerland. Anyhoo, I was totally out of my class. Nice girl, but she and I were never going to work out. Pity.)
But you're right, the song isn't necessarily about Bowie, but it's an interesting theory.

I never said that. I just said that the girl who "comes out of Vogue" (in the second verse) could be Iman.
And, as Sys points out, Bowie had some big hits in 1993. Most notebly, BTWN was a UK #1. If that's not a great big hit, then what is?
I do think it's likely though that the whole song is referring to a male and a female example of something Iggy hates/is jealous of, as you put it. I don't want Iggy to hate Bowie. Even if the song is about Bowie, I'm pretty sure they're friends now. Everything I've read these last five years imply that they're friends. Apparently, they were planning on making another album together in 1996. In 1999 they met at a TV show and joked and laughed, so, yeah, I think they're friends.

Yeah, I agree that this song may be based on David Bowie. It makes sense. And since you mentioned, I always thought Lou Reed´s Make up is about David Bowie too!
Rock and roll with lipstick on... glam era... coming out of their closets... hmmmm
Make up
Your face when sleeping is sublime And then you open up your eyes Then comes pancake factor number one Eyeliner rose hips and lips gloss are such fun You're a slick little girl You're a slick little girl
Rouge and coloring incense and ice Perfume and kisses oooo it's all so nice You're a slick little girl You're a slick little girl
Now we're comin' out Out of our closets Out on the streets Yeah, we're comin' out
When you're in bed it's so wonderful It'd be so nice to fall in love When you get dressed I really get my fill People say that it's impossible
Gowns lovely made out of lace And all the things that you do to your face You're a slick little girl Oh, you're a slick little girl Eyeliner, whitener, then color the eyes Yellow and green oh what a surprise You're a slick little girl Oh, you're such a slick little girl
Now we're comin' out Out of our closets Out on the streets Yes, we're comin' out Yeah, we're comin' out Yeah, we're comin' out
