In reply to:
I've come on a few years from my Hollywood Highs The best of the last, the cleanest star they ever had I'm stiff on my legend, the films that I made Forget that I'm fifty cause you just got paid
Pretty straight-forward. He is a Hollywood celebrity type with a career going down the drain and he hires a hooker.
In reply to:
Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real Smack, baby, smack, is that all that you feel Suck, baby, suck, give me your head Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead
The alternating of the words "crack" and "smack" let us know that the protagonist of this song is speed-balling through this sexual encounter, and so is the hooker. They're doing crack and herion. But there is a double entendre, perhaps trible entendre in the use of the word crack. "Crack baby crack show me you're real." Crack is all the hooker responds to. And so does he. He's not sure if they are "real" any more. "Smack" has an alternate meaning as well. Not only does it refer to them shooting-up, but they have gotten in to a brawl over the fact that he didn't use a condom. They fucked in a dark hotel room and they were both high. Even though she was somewhat conscientious about her sexual health, the circumstances left her oblivious to the fact that Sil Lancelot was not wearing his shield.
SO, they are both "smack"-ing each other, and now she is worried that she is going to give birth to a crack baby if she doesn't have an abortion. "Crack baby crack."
The "Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead" lyric refers to the fact that she is hitting him repeatedly with a blunt object, possibly a hotel chair.
In reply to:
You caught yourself a trick down on Sunset and Vine But since he pinned you baby you're a porcupine You sold me illusions for a sack full of cheques You've made a bad connection 'cause I just want your sex
Now this old actor is singing about what happened to the hooker after his encounter with her. She met David Bowie "down on Sunset and Vine," and since he "pinned" her i.e. fucked her during a sado-masochistic orgy, including the use of "pins," she has become such a fan that she went to a hairstylist and had her hair shaped into a mullet. This is why she suddenly resembles a "porcupine," where as she didn't during the early events described in the song.
The illusion that she sold the actor for the sack full of cheques was the lie that he still "had-it." He no longer "had-it." He was replaced in the public eye by Burt Reynolds.
After such knowledge, what forgiveness?

Interesting--if you were doing this tongue in cheek. If you were SERIOUS, then I doubt Bowie--or anyone--thought about "crack babies" in 1973. They basically just had cocaine back then, not its more evil stepsister "crack."
Plus, I figure you were kidding--thanks to the last interpretive bit involving the mullet. Good one!

Careful...Speedballs are COKE and herion, not crack.
Other than that, great. It reminds me of someone's wonderful interpretation of "Hearts Filthy Lesson" (anyone remember...cos I'm pretty sure its been archived)...the one about the Laugh Motel.
Or the "don't sit down" interp, about pregnancy........damn when did you people (excluding pickle) get so dull?

I love the song. The guitar work is very heavy and the lyrics are homosexual. What more can one want?

Well, hey, even I knew he was talking about drugs somewhere in the song; I mean, he talked about them all the time. Drugs, sex, and stuff. Yay.
