does anyone have anything on the relation and the overall implications and things of each "Purple Rain" and "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust"?
so far i have this myself:
of the covers, though one implying the film "Purple Rain" and one "Space Invader" comics.. but both of course centred in the camera, and what they have with them.. bowie - his guitar in relation to prince's motorcycle; the relation of objects... of course sexual implications are there with them are obvious i think.
both imply travel i think; one with lit motorcycle(of course sexual feeling) and bowie looks on his way too (w/ K.WEST also).. and the backdrops speak for themselves.
both, of course, present messiah/sphinx/superstar/promethus figures of the like.
prince, with the dawn waiting to the west of him; a Death(ending) maybe?(9 tracks seems to imply this also) "My Death waits between your thighs"..the sun moves west to the underworld in egypt.. East lamp to K.West the kind of juxtoposition of the building to the sky on the cover... ?maybe :bowie's east lit::prince's west lit: "my little red corvette has passed"?? is that the bowie lyric?
(even though many people have hang ups on style, its important to look at the object of it, not just the manner)
"Five Years" to "Let's Go Crazy" ect ect ect.. "Rock and Roll Suicide" and "Purple Rain" to be dramatic end points to both, telling the truth or admiting things, maybe?
wendy and lisa seem to be packaged as a sort of weird and gilly too
sonically, it seems to me, that the approach was minimal and electro synth on both albums..maybe implying the street?
the revolution::spiders from mars; a wash of number 5 to it maybe? "5" implying change... ect ect
anyone have anything thoughts on this??

Now this is what I´d call an interesting post! Not only you´re talking about two of my favorite albums but you´re also able to bring up something that I hadn´t thought of before!
In reply to:
"my little red corvette has passed"?? is that the bowie lyric?
That´s actually "My little red corvette has driven by..."
I´ll have to think of this, not to mention listen to both of those excellent albums.
You know I hate to ask but, are `friends’ electric? Mine’s broke down and now I’ve no one to love

"my little red corvette has passed"?? is that the bowie lyric?"
It must be the other way around if anything since Prince sang about a little red corvette on his 1982 album "1999" and Bowie not until 1987 ( He didn't sing about corvettes before Never Let me Down, did he? ).
