Bowie's Most Homosexually Inspired albums?

What 5 Bowie albums, in order of degree, were most thematically linking to his explorations, fascination in bisexual, homosexual dabblings?
1. MWTSW- blatant, psychosexual-homsexual imagery
2.Ziggy- has the gayest atmosphere of any bowie album, has that same feel of Transformer--- blatant sex overshadowed by the fanciful trappings of gay/bi life at that time--
3. Diamond Dogs--- i feel as much influenced by Burroughs and homoeroticism as it was orwell-- a return to more visceral, sexual lyrical territory
4. Outside--- though i feel buried very deep within the mix are the strains of bisexuality past ( besides the obvious hallo spaceboy) lyric.... one of mixed feelings of longing, confusion and regret
5. Hunky Dory-- the segue into innuendo that culminated in ziggy--- probably the most amiguous--

I'd replace Outside with Aladdin Sane. There's no way Outside, as ambigious as it is, could ever be gayer than Aladdin. Unless you count Aladdin to be a part of the Ziggy thematic, and thus cheat by pairing two albums in one list item, and then you could have Outside as well.

Actually, I'm a lab mouse on stilts.

1) MWSTW- Width of A Circle alone makes this the champion.
2) Hunky Dory- The cover makes this one, the moment you see it there's a gay vibe which sort of lingers as you listen to the album.
3) Ziggy- lots of more subtle homosexuality, but it's more of a bi thing, as in most of the songs could be interpreted as being about a man or a woman.
4) Aladdin Sane- I see this as more of a Rolling Stones/hypersexual kind of album, not necessarily gay, but it has its moments.
5) Pin Ups- not very gay in the material, but he's still singing in that 'come on over here, sailor' style of way which definiely can give off a gay/bisexual vibe.

With the possible exception of Hallo Spaceboy, I can't see any signs of homosexuality in Outside, or in Diamond Dogs, but, hey, everyone sees things differently.

'sweet thing' and 'candidate' on diamond dogs; street sex, get it here boys, etc. not your average boy next door values - and the cover

Hunky Dory also has "Queen Bitch," which is pretty damn blatant.

And personally, I think "David Bowie" is really gay.

Next time somebody calls you a name, say, "That's not what your dad says," or simply, "I had sex with your dad." At first it might seem weird, and your friends may be horrified, but they'll grow to see the humor in it.

Now that i think about it, any sexual ambiguities that may linger throughout 1. Outside pale in comparison to anything on the first 5 studio albums.... so much gay slang and sexual metaphors throughout those works... in my opinion, the only bowie albums that seem to consciously take on a more hetero vibe are YA, Lets Dance, Tonight, NLMD and Tin Machine....perhaps bowie realized in the 90s that a slightly more ambiguous, metaphor-laden lyrical stance lends a bit of an edge to his work that is clearly missing in his more "normal" phases...

In addition to comments about Hunky Dory, what about Oh! You pretty things? That is possibly the most homosexually overtoned song I have ever heard.

Don't understand your logic???,As far as im aware Bowies Halloween Jack persona was blatantly Heterosexual,The lyrics you quote are said to other persons in the third person singular,Its a character after all,You are taking the lyrics to literally. We had this a while back with "Boys Keep Swinging",Someone thought that to have gay overtones lol,This is madness. As for the cover to David Live!,Please elaborate on what you think makes a guy in a blue suit look gay?.

It's parodic, camp-toned pseudo-butch discourse on gay themes.

Shirt? isn't it a pulled out of shape jumper? the 'gayness' could be the angle he's holding the microphone , controlling the vans deferens with his hand, and the bulge in his trousers, which is prob why they chose the foto.

haha

(dragging out the album, torn cover and the records prob scratched to buggery - didn't realise had a record of bowie doing peter and the wolf! and a scary monsters lp! )

Re: Bowie's Most Homosexually Inspired albums? new [re: Shoes]

I think if someone's looking for homosexuality in a song, they're going to find it. Of course, David makes it quite easy sometimes.

I'm a newbie, so if I repeat anyone else, apologies are forthright. But I see Bowie as someone who likes to play with the minds of people around him for his own amusement. I sometimes get the picture that he blurs the line of gayness in a song so that we're unsure and question it.

If I was in his position, I would probably sit back and read posts like these with a clever little smile on my face. He keeps himself in our thoughts, eh?
