LOL! Of course, my new favorite is not a mis-heard lyric but, rather, a CORRECTLY heard mis-lyric. It's Bowie's singing Rebel Rebel in Copenhagen (or was it Stockholm) and intentionally changing "you got your mother in a whirl, she's not sure if your a boy or a girl" to "you got your mother in a whirl, she's not sure if you're a boy or a squirrel. Now THAT's comedy!

When I was a little kid, I thought the coolest song I'd ever heard on the radio was this thing called 'Sulfur Jet City.'

There is an hilarious wrong lyric over at BWW, and now every time I hear Station to Station, I always end up singing the wrong lyric and not the correct one, it makes me laugh aloud every time.
"It's not the side effects of the cooking"

I always thought it was "your face, your ace..." not quite sure what ace is, exactly...
Interesting, it could even be "your face, you're ace, the way that you talk"!!

Do you ever, when listening to some songs, choose to hear some lyrics the way you think it sounds better.
I don't think getting all the lyrics right matters that much in pop music. I, like you, have mistaken some lyrics for years. It's the melody that the words are couched in that matter to me. If Bowie wanted us to all hear "Baby" instead of "Lately" (I always hear "lately"), then he would have taken more time in the editing phase of the musical recording session.

In Young Americans I always hear "blushing at all the apple stealers" rather than "the afro-sheeners"
and in Suffragette City I hear "another fat chick just put my spine out of place" rather than "mellow thighed"
"That's just, like, your opinion, man."

In Sweet Head I always heard "I'm your rubber peacock and jelly fork" until I looked it up and found the real words. Now I can't hear it my way anymore.

Andy Warhol-David Bowie "Butter people in my brain" as opposed to, in actuality, "Put a peephole in my brain."
Several years ago i was sure that it was 'put a bullet in my brain' (cmp. to Paul Simon's 'Richard Cory'). My other favourite misinterpretation is: ~ making love with his EAGLE ~ ('ZS') I think it coud have added some extra 'oddity' to the character.

"do you wonder sometimes what's sound and vision"
I understood:
"do you wonder sometimes what's 'undernision'''
and indeed I wondered what that might be.
